Improve the Japanese Thompson and other captured weapons

At the moment the Japanese Thompson makes no sense. For example it refills from jap ammo boxes and cannot refill from the USA ammo boxes despite being a American weapon.

Also when japenses gurillas pick it up they don’t get full ammo despite it being a captured weapon.

A simmilar case can be seen with the mp717r, mp719r, ofenrohr and German ppsh41 obrez. All share ammo with their uncaptured variants yet they can’t refill from enemy ammo boxes. I’m not entirely sure the mp717r used the same ammo as the ppsh 41 in real life but they do share the same in game.

MP-717R was a captured PPSH that was either kept in its original round of 7.62x25mm Tokarev OR alternatively troops would be supplied with 7.63x25mm Mauser, which was close enough in dimension that it could be used in the original PPSH magazines.

The Japanese Thompson doesn’t really count as a captured weapon, since the logic Darkflow is going with is that its a weapon that the Japanese military got their hands on and tested Pre-War. So I suppose the logic is that these are not captured guns, but simply guns that were in storage and brought out of storage during the war. (You could also say they are captured from the Chinese I suppose, since the Chinese did buy some Thompsons though I’m not sure which variant they bought, so the Japanese Thompson might not match whatever variant the Chinese bought, idk)

For the Obrez PPSH (No idea why this was even added to the game) yeah it would make sense to be able to resupply using enemy ammo boxes. I can’t comment on the captured Ofenrohr but I would assume the original rocket/missle/whatever the proper term is was used but idk.

In game they share ammo, so my logic is that It makes no sense that the mp717r can’t refill from soviet ammo boxes. The description makes no mention of any rechambering of the gun.

Captured or not, the Japanese Thompson shares a ammo pool with the m1928 usmc Thompson. There is no reason why the Japanese Thompson shouldn’t be able to get ammo from us ammo boxes.

For the MP-717R, if in game it says it shares the same ammo then yeah it makes sense for you to be able to resupply on enemy ammo then. (I haven’t read the in game description of the gun so idk what round it says it uses in game)

EDIT : Actually since the MP-717R is still capable of using original PPSH ammo, even if the in game description was to say its supplied with the Mauser round instead it would still make sense to be able to resupply on enemy ammo boxes.

And for the Thompson yeah it uses .45 just like most Thompsons so yes it makes sense too to be able to resupply, but it doesn’t count as a captured gun from the Americans. (But yeah regardless it still shoots .45, so there is no reason to not allow you to resupply using enemy ammo boxes)

euthy’s spreadsheet says the mp717 can refill from enemy ammo boxes though?

It actually can.

Because it still shares the same ammo resevere with classic PPSH-41.

So all you have to do is pick up Soviet PPSH-41. And then you can use enemy ammo box.

It’s really funny how everyone is always talking about MP717 (r).
But never about Soviet Thompson or Soviet Breda MG.

What a mystery…

When a weapon is bad enough and there are better alternatives, everyone forgets about it

A while ago I was told this wasn’t the case, I’ve assumed it hasn’t been able to refill ever since.
Here is the forum post: Mp717r bug

And yet if a German gurillas picks up a mp717r he doesn’t get full ammo. But if the same gurillas picks up a ppsh41 he gets full ammo. Despite the mp717r being captured and sharing the same ammo.

Also if they share the same ammo and magazines why should I have to pick up a ppsh41 if my gun is already compatible with enemy ammo.

From my experiences, you always get bonus ammo only for weapon that’s currently in first slot.

It’s still a work around, compared to letting the mp717r being able to refill from enemy boxes. To refill it from enemy ammo at the moment you need to find a ppsh41 so any secondary needs to be dropped. That’s not even taking into account how hard it can be find a ppsh41. Overall this is a poor work around to the Devs not adding a bit more unique qualities to specific captured weapons.

It’s already got the highest RoF of any Thompson in the game. I’d rather have my 1000+ RoF Thompson where it belongs, thanks. (It belongs in the hands of my American M3 Halftrack driver)
