you need to know exact enemy vehicle by looks before you test stuff on it → put a sign with the name of the enemy tank in practice range. people are not encyclopedia of ww2 tanks.
vehicles are randomly scattered and you need time to search tanks. → sort tanks by level/tiers. also put multiple tanks in different orientations (front/side/back) for easy target practice
empty tank damage model differs from ingame crewed tank damage model → put stationary bots inside those tanks to simulate accurate ingame damage model. many shots that would destroy tank ingame actually dont destroy empty tank in practice mode.
You see the names of the tanks in the kill feed, so I don’t think this is so bad.
Agreed, there is lots of room for improvement. Current layout tries to have different targets at different ranges and orientations and also be a compromise between being a range for tanks and for planes. This worked a lot better in the past, when there weren’t so many types of tanks per campaign. But now, when you want to practice killing a speficific type through various weakspots, you have to do a looooot of driving around. This will be even worse after the merge. I think they will have to increase the number of target tanks significantly and also rearrange them, while they’re at it.
Yes 100%.
I can kinda see why the terrain is uneven. So that you can practice shooting on the move. But there definitely should be a paved area through the entire range. And also another reload point + ammo box somewhere in the middle. Having to run back and forth, when practicing with your new PIAT or whatever is hell.
Give us more than one car and place the infantry AT weapons on the tank range, not the rifle range.
Conclusion: The practice mode wastes a lot more time than is necessary. Overhaul is urgently needed.
I like all of your suggestions. I’d also like to be able to have the “armor” view of the opposing tanks available.
When I’ve wanted to get a better understanding of how to use various AT weapons or how to counter certain tanks, I’ve found the practice mode pretty useless.
it is bad specially when you have limited ammo (like tnt/explosive packs) and you dont recognize the vehicle. also it makes it easier to find what you want.
Additionally, you should be able to see either an map indicator or even some kind of screen that shows where your bombs land in aircraft.
I know when I was learning how to glide bomb that I had to have my teammates continuously tell me where I was hitting, as the testing range was not helpful at all.
well it would be good in practice mode to have 1 marker for planes and then when you drop bomb it would show you how much meters your bomb dropped from the marker.
or maybe some kind of target mini game.
i dont really care for their implementation as long as there is some kind of mechanism that will help people in learning how to drop bombs. from personal experience i know it was rather hard to learn cause i didnt play WT, so i needed to learn from youtube and then try to implement it in live game.
I didn’t either, but from what I’ve been told, the system of aiming in warthunder is different from Enlisted.
I also started thinking about that. The end of the tank range is pretty open, perhaps adding a nice big bullseye that will pop up and tell you exactly where you hit each time would be a good solution.
