Improve bot AI and differentiate game modes

Green things commanders!

I’ve been thinking about a possible improvement that could make Enlisted, especially the Squads mode, much more engaging and strategic.

Right now, bots often feel passive or not very useful. But imagine if they were much stronger and smarter: it would finally make sense to use squad commands actively—position them tactically, hold angles, support assaults, etc.

This would greatly increase realism and make battles much more dynamic and intense, eliminating those dead moments where bots just stand around doing nothing. It would be awesome to see AI returning fire, taking cover, flanking enemies, and actually contributing to the fight.

If the game were to go in this direction, it would also make sense to rework the Lone Fighters mode. For example, increasing the number of real players to 32 vs 32, with larger maps and no bots, could offer two completely distinct playstyles:

  • Squads = Tactical gameplay, improved AI, command and strategy.
  • Lone Fighters = Pure action, all human players.

What do you all think? Would you like to see a change like this?

Let’s discuss—maybe we can get the devs to consider it!

Bots definitely need improved. Enemy bots at times are supermen, as I was standing on the top of the stairs a few days ago shooting down at the enemy at the bottom of the stairs, and with one leap, not touching a step he flew up and bayonetted me as I was firing. Now, that had to be a bot. Now my bots on the other hand, they are worse then a mentally handicapped child. I can run down a hallway in the middle of a building while all my bots run along the same building, but outside while each one of them gets picked off. I am constantly 400 meters ahead of them since they refuse to run, and I jump through a window away from the enemy while my bots have to run around to the front of the building and go in the front door, where the enemy are all waiting.
