I just want to briefly remind everyone that back in CBT semi autos got nerfed into oblivion with that massive rate of fire nerf- despite them not even getting picked over full auto guns to begin with.
Then with the massive dispersion nerf for all weapons - semi auto rifles have been nerfed even further, again despite them not even being part of the meta to begin with.
The idea used to be that everyone would pick semi autos over bolt actions, which is why the devs nerfed them hard back in the days.
Nowadays we have to acknowledge that things have changed and the game itself had introduced mechanics that make this type of nerfing completely unnecessary.
-Bolt actions kill with one shot now, back in the day semi autos and bolt actions had practically the same damage per shot.
-we have a battle rating system now, and semi auto rifles are supposed to be better rifle versions of the starter bolt action rifles.
I do not see a reason to pick rifles of any type over SMGs unless those rifles are select fire weapons.
From BR1 - BR4, the only type of weapons that is truly worth it are SMGs and since we are constantly increasing map sizes and ask for bigger maps, rifles performing better to make them reliable at longer ranges seems like a no brainer to me.
Damage is fine and its also reasonable that bolt-actions perform better at range.
Semi-autos should have a tiny little bit less recoil and much less dispersion.
Anyone who played Armaguerra39 is fully aware that the gun is crazy over nerfed.
Moving with it gives MG42 level dispersion so unless you are prone, you won’t hit anything beyond 10m which is absolutely crazy for a rifle.
The only usable semi-auto in game is an event Breda PG Carcano. Why? Because it got 12 vertical & 5 horizontal actual recoil. Meanwhile, ZH-29 have 92 vertical & 27 horizontal recoil, over 6X times higher.
All Tier III-V semi-autos need their recoil lowered to be similar to Breda PG to be even considered to be a viable option.
Otherwise, rapid-fire BAs like Mannlicher 95 are far better pick for your engie or AT-gunner until you can take actual useful Tier V gun like AVT/FG.
Frankly, I’d prefer giving SA rifles far less recoil. About as much as automatic rifles.
SA rifles, at present, except for the Japanese ones and the M1 Carbine, all have recoil that’s only a bit less compared to a bolt-action rifle despite not being as powerful.
Automatic rifles, which have a fraction of the recoil semi-auto rifles have, can do anything an SA rifle can, and more.
I would genuinely rather make SA rifles easier to control that would make it easier to place shots on targets over a barely recognizable difference in dispersion that would only matter at longer distance shooting.
Currently, only the recoil and dispersion of the VG1-5 are normal in semi-automatic rifles.
Other semi-automatic rifles are not even as good as bolt action rifles in value.
Especially Garland,Its animation model jumps like a quantum effect.
Semi-auto is fine as it is now. I am quite happy with the performance of the current M1Garand and Gew43. And no matter what happens in reality, semi-autos should not be made fully upward compatible with bolt-actions.
Bolt-action and semi-auto each have their advantages and disadvantages, and it is fun to have a match where they are mixed in BR3, because such a match is the most iconic representation of WW2.
Well, it is somewhat problematic that BR3-4 has to face them, even though BR5 has a weapon that deserves to be fully upwardly compatible with semi-autos, but that is another matter.
I would pick a BR 1 MP34 over every single semi auto in the game, ( exception being some event rifles with bigger magazines ) simply because of potential DPS. When you miss half your shots with something like a G41, you will completely waste your time reloading constantly, dispersion makes low capacity rifles completely useless, unless you stay still and try to hit something at 50m + distance, which is not the standard combat distance in this game, and you need to stay mobile or you are dead.
Every SMG is better at medium range than every semi auto rifle, especially since most don’t even kill in one shot to begin with
It’s probably why I’ve got no issues here. I shoot ppl BEFORE they get too close (or before I get close when charging) either with semis or bolties. Also got no trouble aiming whatsoever…
But it’s true using smgs only if just for ppl only pressing W while keep lmb pressed…
Semis are powerful. My full Garands squads, or g43 goons, could storm points, storm builfings, and clear opposition before they got too close. As for “dps”… a full upgraded semi often needs a single shot to down, and I double tap for good measure at close range. No matter the rof of your arm, if only the first shot count…
(Disclaimer: my semis are all max stars. It’s why dispersion is almost non existing on them.)
