Players should be making use of rally points if they are available. If they select where they want to spawn, then by all means they should spawn there. However, if players for some reason aren’t selecting a specific spawn point and just going to the default spawn, it should default them to whatever the closest to objective spawn point is.
I bring this up for several reasons.
- Players taking forever to get to the objective simply because they didn’t select a spawn point.
- Players breaking down fortifications meant for the next objective, just because they were too lazy to spawn on a rally point that is available. (Myself and everyone I know that uses engineers to set up fall-backs make sure to put up rally points that lets the team not have to deal with fortifications. Half the time people don’t use them and just cause problems.)
- Bot squads can get into the action faster this way too.
However, in addition add some coding that if there are a bunch of friendly characters (multiple squads) grouped up near it, that this spawn will not be available. To stop people from sealing bots into areas.

I see where you are coming from, but I can see a potential downside.
This could encourage people to place rally points that are closest to the objective even if they aren’t the best, safest, or most practical locations because then they would get extra XP from auto-spawning players and bot squads.
Rally points should always be considered risky to spawn at, whether that is from spawn camping, bad locations, or trolling. For that reason I think it would be best that spawning at a rally point should always be a deliberate decision and never automatic.

Let get your opinion on this then:
Should players be REQURED to choose a spawn point, rather than it just defaulting?

I place my rallies as close as possible and they only ever get destroyed by bombing runs. Being too close in Moscow generally isn’t a problem.

That’s a good question. I always prefer to choose my spawn location so I would prefer if I could disable auto-spawn for myself. But it’s possible others like the flow of just automatically spawning and not worrying about it. And it’s possible they put auto-spawn in the game to keep the pacing and prevent inactivity (although they kick you for inactivity anyway.)
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this.

It should be a separate setting. Auto spawning annoys me cuz sometimes I’m waiting to see if a plane isn’t gonna sucide so I can hop into a fighter.

I understand your logic but there is a certain point where this actually hurts the attacking team because the defenders know where the attackers are coming from. There are games that require opening 2-3 angles of attack to break a good defense and this is where your logic to force spawn “closest” rally falls apart. Sometimes I will intentionally spawn at a starter spawn to sneak a wide angle to build a rally opening a new vector of attack. This strategy is how great players can be defeated

I would love to be able to turn off auto spawn.
I like to always be intentional about where I spawn, and at times I have spawned further back than I would have liked or with the wrong squad because the game plopped me down on its own.
I think the reason they have auto spawn at all is to prevent people just sitting in the death screen waiting for a vehicle slot to open up all match, thus not providing any value to the team in spite of wasting a server spot all match long. I think for that reason alone it is a good idea to force auto spawn to remain on for everyone. It encourages players to play outside their comfort zone with squads they otherwise might not, rather than just waiting for exactly what they want.
As for where the auto-spawn should put you…hmm good point.
If someone is really AFK then they could be bleeding tickets faster auto-spawning on the front lines than further back.
It’s a tough call.
Perhaps there is a happy medium where if you have no spawn point selected, then the game will auto spawn you at a random starter spawn (not rally point) after an extended period of time (like say 30 to 45 seconds).
But if you do manually select a spawn (and maybe it should allow for deselection too) then it goes to the normal 10 second thing it does.
Just spitballing ideas.
People can certainly abuse the waiting times as well with this approach, not helping, but perhaps not for that long.

Thats my point though. You are INTENTIONALLY spawning there. I’m not saying remove the option to spawn there, just remove the default of spawning there.
If you have your vehicle squad selected, it will let you stay there already. Only if you have an infantry slot selected or a vehicle is available will it auto-spawn you after 10 seconds.

One issue that I’ve run into on console, and I’m sure PC has a similar issue, is that some people put a rubber band on their stick and have them run forward if they are AFK so their bots have a chance to kill something while they are gone. Honestly its still an issue. Though they are just bypassing the kick for inactivity through the use of the default spawner.
I still think the best solution is to at the very least force it to cycle through rally points before default spawn locations. Perhaps not even just the closest one, but whichever rally point is available. Players should not be default spawning at all. They should be picking a location, and going in with a plan.

All valid reasons to keep it the way it currently is. Though I think the auto spawn should be a setting in custom matches and we’ll see how it goes from there.
