If it wasnt the MG 39 than what weapon is the MG 42 early really?

I always assumed that the MG 42 early was supposed to be the grossfuß MG 39 but with the MG 39 now added it is clear that I was wrong with my assumption.
Is there anothere weapon that could be the MG 42 early or was it really intended to be a proper MG 42 that at the time of the moscow campaign should not have existed?

From what I understand MG39 is a trial/prototype/predecessor of MG42 while MG42 early is just MG42 from early production (low serial number) (there are some differences between them).

The MG 42 early is essentially a pre-production version of the MG 42, 1500 were made in 1941, it’s proper name is MG 39/41 if you want to look it up
