You played Red Orchestra Rising Storm, did you? they managed to make the underequiped Japaneses fun and balanced vs overequipped usa. Was truly great, especially the Banzai charges: during it, Japanese soldiers had health boosts to whistand some shots, and when near their enemies enough, caused shell shock effect to them (representing fear, or simply us soldier shit*** his pants)
Kamikaze strikes with grenades also did NOT cost tickets to the Japanese faction, and even earned points if they took down enemies with them.
I had MUCH more fun with the Japanese, it was so silly charging like a madman
Oh yes I played rising storm lol they made everything work and feel unique without fake guns, prototypes or semi autos. That was the correct way to do it. I already see alot of people asking for tanks that never fought to counter shermans or numerous semi autos and I really dont think any of that is needed
Tanks should take a GIANT back seat in this campaign
Here is the thing, you don’t need to do this if you do a Commonwealth against Japan, as both fielded similar equipment, and neither developing any semi-autos throughout the course of the war. Alternatively, they could do island hopping, and balance the Garand with the Type Hei Rifle, which reportedly appeared in the Pacific theater in a similar frequency to the Gewehr 43 in Berlin.
Edit: For tanks, yeah, you are pretty much stuck. If historical accuracy is to be stuck with as rigidly as specified, you can’t use anything better than a Chi-Ha Kai. Your best bet would probably to start slow, with like the M8 Greyhound against a Ha-Go, and then slowly ramp up to a Chi-Ha or Chi-Ha Kai against an M4A1 Sherman at the final level. Maybe something along the lines of M8/Ha-Go, LVT(A)(1)/Ke-Ni, M3 Stuart/Ka-Mi, LVT with an M8 turret/Chi-Ha, M4A1/Chi-Ha Kai.
Sad thing is that in CBT comunity was very loud in terms of historicall accuracy and we had some successes. Like removing russian scout car from moscow.
But when OBT started, devs said basically “fuck you guys”. They readded said scout car as a premium and did all the shit we see today.
Since then, about half of CBT members quit or gave up and don’t fight any more.
Maybe I’m wrong but imo this game has no future with such approach (lying to players basically). When stream of new players willing to pay stops, the game will colaps sooner rather than later because of lack of people willing to spend money in a long term.
For example in CBT I was ready to spend some monney here and support the project. But now I’m happy I didn’t give them a cent.
to me it seems more that there has been a big change of direction as if suddenly the guy who was in charge of development has been sent away and in his place they have put a banker with the only order to make money
I made a forum post Proposing a Battle of Hong Kong Campaign, if you wish, I can lend my notes too. The thread is below, but I have made quite a few changes to my personal copy in that time. If you would like my assistance, I would be glad to help.
Type 4 never left the home islands, but there are recorded instances of the Type Hei Rifle being fielded and/or captured. It was basically a knockoff of the Pederson rifle chambered for the 6.5 x 50 mm Arisaka round.
Previously I made suggestions for “balanced” Japanese campaigns. Perhaps you will be interested. Battle of Philippine 1944-45 Battle of Shanghai 1937
I think early 2nd Sino-Japanese war campaigns will be well balanced game for Japanese forces. Different to Pacific war, both army used bolt-action rifle, and had relatively balanced armored vehicles.
Especially, Battle of Shanghai is one of the best choices for the game: Chinese had their best army, and Japanese had not only army but also unique naval urban warfare forces. As you know Japanese army did not used SMGs much, but different to army, navy had lots of submachine guns like SIG-Bergmann M1920 (MP18/20) and Steyr-Solothurn S1-100 (MP34ö). Additionally, both forces had decent armored vehicles: several armored cars, tankettes, Type 89 medium tank (Japanese) and Vickers 6-ton tank (Chinese). Battlefield is also good: terrain consisted with urban areas, fields and fortress areas. If anyone wants, we can also see landing battles.
Although if developers want, there is semi-auto rifles, too. Japanese have prototype Mod. Ko (A), Otsu (B) and Hei (C) experimental semi-auto rifles, and Chinese had General Liu rifle and ZH-29. Of these, only the ZH29 was put into action, but if it is implemented at a high level, it will not be a problem so much.
Another advantage is novelty: In Tunisia and Normandy we already see British commonwealth army and US army. However, if implement Chinese campaign, not only axis but also allies have completely different troops and weapons! In that time Chinese had lots of unique German, Czechoslovak, Belgian, Swiss, French, Spanish, American and various domestic-production weapons at the early of war.
That’s sounds nice idea, but it seems to have a problem. Japanese players like me are blocked from in-game chats by DMM (publisher of Gaijin’s game in Japan) For such people, it is difficult to use such system:(
