I tried HLL as a long termer Enlisted fan / 2025 game direction (long)

After so long I retried the famous walking simulator on ps5, I have to be honest, providing performance is good, in a Comms orientated server it isn’t bad as it was! (Majo bug still exists with comms)

I played a battle and died a lot but have to say it was fun (just miss full cross play).

I then turned Enlisted back on, I have done my grind and end game on Enlisted, there are things that Enlisted does better.

LARGE SCALE
HLL has amazing maps compared to Enlisted base game. BUT The custom mode Big Action is far better IMHO and much more exciting to play, than HLL, large scale with multiple vehicles and planes.

TEAMWORK
When comms work HLL is great and can feel amazing with a good officer, commander. But I also get the same feels from Enlisted when playing in a group / stack with my clan.

VARIETY
The amount of classes, weapons, vehicles and planes (HLL has none), makes Enlisted far more varied in regards to choice. For me it goes back to scale and map size, but I play Big Action so get the large scale battles I am craving. (Now 3 full servers most days!)

MAP CHOICE:
HLL has selectable map and modes, Enlisted you can choose faction, but since merge not maps. This is something hopefully the devs realize we want our choice back, preferred maps needs to be released sooner than later.

SQUADS
HLL dedicated roles, the engineer for instance can build much more, bunkers, wooden walls and amount of choice, wow Enlisted needs to recognise that (I do recall being able to build buildings, stackable sandbags in the past!). Simply put, Enlisted engineers, build rallies and mgs, but no bunkers, just basic sandbags. As for other classes, it is far easier to quickly swap to assault, lmg, flamer, AT class, paras, guerillas than HLL

FINAL Thoughts
HLL and Enlisted are different games, I get frustrated with lack of comms on non-clan servers on HLL, but Enlisted has the variety, I can fly if I want, be in a Tiger and then select my flame squad or build a rally / AT anytime I like.

The scale is the main thing I see lacking from base Enlisted, if the devs were to support Big Action which is where Enlisted really could be, but give us more large scale, Enlisted would be hands down winner.

But truth is we have no map choice, smaller faster more action packed battles yes, but I hate the annoying bugs and limitations on certain vehicles (mosquito not flying full speed, TDs with no Binocs, FW flight model), the 20k grind on events which expects you to play over Christmas or lose daily login bonus or FOMO kicks in!). So HLL will still get a place on my Ps5.

As you can see I refer to Big Action a lot in this comparison, but without BA, I think HLL and Enlisted in regards to which is better, the answer would be both for different reasons.

This is really to show Devs that yes player base is growing on Enlisted, but there are other games which Enlisted could learn from (engineers in HLL far more impactful).

WHAT NEXT?
It is 2025 and I am excited for what the Devs will bring to Enlisted this year, but I have to be honest I am now playing 3 other games as well, all because unless I have to, I still play with clan events or to avoid FOMO from the events DF throws at us, but let’s see how it goes in 2025.

Recently DF Devs have now removed more of our choice with removing Gold order weapons and vehicles and we are now force fed as part of BP. (I could equip and buy Go weapons and never had sets of any of them, as didn’t have enough squads to equip them on, now I am going to get 4 ppsh45, which will either replace my assault class bloodied ppsh from zombie event or it will just gather dust in garage / hanger). I have premium squads in my line up at BR5, so ppsh45 might get one in one squad but 3 will be redundant and just sit there.

It is up to Devs of Enlisted to listen to it’s player base, stop taking freedom of choice away, preferred maps, choice on Go weapons are just recent examples. We want larger battles, the game can handle 4 tanks, 4 planes at a time, proof is in Big Action. Engineers can have buildings enhanced, better AT upgrades.

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

Ha! That boat sailed forever ago. Should’ve advocated against BR buddy

Not so sure about that honestly (it is pretty popular), as for BR, I like BR I like HA, I like choice (that is the biggest one for me!) and large scale battles…

We had 2 choices given to us
Preferred Map System which would have maintained HA and allowed us to tailor a load out that MM’s into specific theaters of war
Or
Battle Ratings. A system that attempts to “rank” everything according to its stats and attempts to separate games according to what you use to make it all “fair and balanced.” With plenty of up and the occasional down tier thrown into the MM as well, of course.

One would’ve maintained Enlisted’s uniqueness. The other is what people who don’t know how to shoot the enemy before the enemy shoots them think they want “because it’s fair,” while simultaneously destroying HA with Volksturm weapons in Tunisia and guns being made in ‘45 being put first while guns made before ‘38 are put last in the line for whatever reason. Seriously, look at the Thompson’s. They’re almost perfectly in reverse chronological order. It’s weird

I genuinely don’t know why anyone thought BR’s were a good idea. They suck in WT, and they suck in Enlisted. Thank God BR III exist and DF did matchmaking for it the way they did. It’s the last shred of Enlisted that Enlisted has left

Never forgot the historically accurate Jumbo and M2 in Normandy.

Not really, but I guess it make sense as American.

I’ve also tried HLL during the free sale, I am kinda disappointed I was hoping for more,

the most disappointing thing is optimalization, can’t run the game in 60fps, meanwhile I’m playing enlisted with high settings and it looks just as good.

Second is controls and movement, can’t climb fences, can’t get through bushes, controls are janky can’t really change stances smoothly.

Third is servers, joining a game takes ages, this weird queue system in which you can’t really join even half populated server.

The thing I liked though is overall atmosphere, slower pace and crouch-running.

I honestly think if enlisted devs decided to make hardcore-milsim version of enlisted it would be far better than HLL engine wise.

HLL is better in terms of combat experience, you will be suppressed, afraid of death, move from one cover to the next and lowering your body. While Enlisted combat are just some arcade gunfight.

In HLL, soldiers obey officers and officers obey commanders. In Enlisted, players fight for themselves, and the few interactions they have are just to share some intelligence.

For me, the downsides of HLL compared to Enlisted are poor resolution and a worse sniper rifle experience.

The thing that bothers me most about HLL is the running speed. I literally walk faster irl than how soldiers sprint in HLL.

It causes me to have an incredible uncanny valley feeling.

Try Big Action custom mod on Enlisted, compare to Enlisted, then come back and say HLL better

I play “big action” more than HLL on the total battle time.
