Many people say “that was the best movie ive ever seen” about movies like save private ryan or stalingrad and such. I normally wouldnt do that but I wanted to tell you to watch the new movie, “all quiet on the western front” (netflix). It doesnt matter if you are a fan of russia germany or usa. The country is not revelvant for the topic war in this movie.
I watched it yesterday and i had tears in my eyes in about 5 scenes in this movie. Ive seen a lot of disturbing things in the internet, but nothing hit me harder than that one scene in this movie.
(i would add it here if i would only know how to add that “spoiler” option in this post, can anyone tell me how to do it?)
The movie is about a young german soldier who experienced the horrors of the first world war.
I saw a lot of war movies, but not a single one came close to be that emotional as this one. I couldnt even play enlisted afterwards because i felt to sorry.
You need to watch it. I paid 8 dollars to be able to watch it and i must say i do not regret it at all.
Liked the movie…it’s the “prettiest” adaptation of the novel, but I’m not certain it’s the best adaptation of the book. I’ve seen the 1970s made-for-TV film one as well as the 1930 American film. The TV one and the 1930s film are the best story adaptations, the Netflix show is the best looking adaptation.
If you could splice parts from the 3 together I think it would make a terrific (albeit 3 hour) film.
Really, if anyone hasn’t read the book, you need to. For an actual account of WWI from the German perspective, I would also recommend Storm of Steel by Jünger.
By the way did you know the book (publish in 1929) that this movie is based on was forbidden in Nazi Germany and was burn in 1933.
The message of this movie is indeed very pacifist, and it didn’t fit with the plan of H.
If you feel a little depressed by “All quiet on the western front”, I would recommand also this one. There is also Daniel Brühl in this one. I love this actor.
