there were 10k paratroopers and 750 gliders (out of 22k force). losses were around 45% for paratroopers. they dropped first, with mountaineers and seamen reinforcing them later. overall there were ~5800 casualties out of that ~4700 paratroopers and ~1100 mountaineers. considering that later fights only saw casualties up to ~10% for mountaineers, i dont believe paratroopers suffered much more than that considering that they were mostly fighting with them. so that leaves ~35-40% losses on first day of combat. i cant find casualty statics for battles after the jump, just have overall casualty statics, but stories corroborate that it was pretty bad for german paratroopers that were hot dropped as planned. those numbers werent higher cause some actually missed landing zone and some others werent dropped in middle of enemy.
overall battle of crete was a lesson on why you dont hot drop. those who hot dropped had casualties of over 60% with some having been almost wiped out.
