Huge problem with bolties

So, for a last two weeks I was playing with “semi-historical” squads - maximum 1 engineer and 1 full-auto unit, others are basic soldiers. Theoretically, bolt-action rifles are awesome - 1sk and good accuracy. And in cqc combat with bayonet-hipfire combo it works perfectly, but as soon as enemy not running straight forward at you, it turns into complete nightmare. Because bullets have speed, you need to apply lead to the aim, but soldiers can stop or start running INSTANTLY and therefore misses are very frequent. So, 3 solutions:

  1. Give inertia to all soldiers. And I know, inertia was removed after Berlin test, for this:

And despite it looks like just a skill issue fore me here are other solutions:

  1. Give inertia to bots only.
  2. Give rifle bullets infinite speed.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

You are using BULLETS not LASERS.

No.

They are amazing as they are now. 0 changes are required for bolt actions.

1st or 2nd variants, then?

What?

So that means I can take down a pilot 1000 meters away with sniper

Not very good idea

The bolt-action rifle in this game is the best I have ever played. Its damage is high enough, the accuracy is no problem, the bullet does not feel the drop, and there is no accuracy penalty for hip shooting
I don’t think there’s any point in strengthening

No, this would change the rifles into a hitscan weapon. Enlisted use a projectile shooting mechanic. Different ammo type have different speed and they drop over distance. Hitscan is the opposite, a raycast is drawn straight from the muzzle of the weapon to determine if you hit an enemy.

I’m ok with adding inertia to movements, as this makes sense and would make bots looks less like headless chickens.

Bolties themselves are perfect as they are thought.

Inertia would only make autos even more powerfull.

Imo.

Why? It’s just give low fire rate guns guarantee, that you’ll land you shot.

How much more easy you want the shooting mechanics to be?
I mean, it’s already straight foward aim, shot… Not like enlisted chars move same speed as old games like combat arms…

Sights ain’t as bad as games like ro2, have amazing sight pictures and targets are easy to acquire and down even on movement… Imo… Ofc…

Having players running slower, or with inertia as one asks, will only make autos even more dominant.

But that’s just my opinion tho…

But why? I still don’t get the point.

It would be the opposite in fact. the classes benefiting the most from absence of inertia are assaulters and any class running constantly.

With inertia, you’d have to forget about doing super quick 180 while jumping after a sprint moves.

In truth, and I feel guilty about this, bolties are those that would shine even more. But I don’t think they need to as they’re quite perfect atm. I mean, as a bolt action shooter, it would become ridiculously easy to shoot any running soldier now, as they simply could not change running direction as fast as they are doing right now.

It’s why just swarming points did not work in games with inertia (like the red orchestras and stuff). Looked more realistic as players had to take a more careful approach when advancing… So it looked like soldiers actually cared for their one life.

In short:

  • Inertia would buff bolties even more as everyone would become easier targets (bad)
  • Would make the game look more realistic and less arcady (very good)
  • Inertia would greatly nerf any charging full auto class, as it would hamper their presently lighting quick movements (good or bad?)

I wouldn’t mind inertia, but I wouldn’t mind if it’s not implemented either :man_shrugging:

You forgot 1 thing - each player have at least 3 bots with them, so he’ll require to stop and open fire.
Right now its ridiculous, how you can make “matrix” moves and get to the point without taking a single hit.

… It’s what I meant in my big explanation?
bolt action users must already stop before firing else risking taking their foot off or shooting an innocent bird passing by. Inertia wouldn’t change a thing for how they’re played.
assaulters would now ALSO need to slow down to fire accurately, which would greatly diminish the pace at which they’re used atm. unless they keep hipfiring.

The inertia part, maybe. Not too sure how much that would affect the different weapons. I’d have to see it tested to have an opinion on that.

Turning bolt actions into hit-scan weapons though? No.
Bolt actions are already a very strong weapon. The bullet velocity is already quite high. IF they were made hitscan though, they would become insanely overpowered.

As they are right now is honestly perfect. It takes a little time to reach the target, especially at range, making it take skill to use. Which, considering that they have high enough damage they basically guarantee a one shot kill except at extreme ranges (this can be fixed by upgrading them), or if the target has vitality perk in which case a second shot will kill. This amount of power HAS to come with drawbacks, or otherwise it gets spammed as there is no reason to use anything else.

ALSO, it would cause a massive problem for aircraft, as they would just get sniped by ground troops constantly. Infantry all ready have FAR too much power with explosive packs and being able to one shot tanks, what you are asking for would give basic bolt action players the ability to take out aircraft the same way. Completely skipping over AA, HMGs, and fighters.

So NO. Leave bolt actions as they are.

Oops, sorry, I’ve replied to the wrong person

Understantable i got bored from the usuale (Meta spam), currently my lineup in all campaigns is

  • sniper squad (a little handicap)
  • a squad equipped with assault weapon (for example in normandy allaies or stalingrad is the enginer squad because they use assault rifle and smg)
  • machinegunner (with enginer and riflman equipped with Selective-Fire along side the 3 mg)

Imo

The actual make more realistic soldier movement i think work better

Nope, i know wy you think is a good idea, but, learn and practice on how hit distant target in movement with a BA is more fun and rewarding, than aim and click
