I’m a completionist, so having an un-maxed squad will bother me. and I’m currently playing Pacific Axis, so my question is how to level up the A5M4 squad?
Shoot down enemy aircraft. Bombers in enemy air raids are good targets because they are slow, there are 5 of them and you can get 750 xp per bombing raid.
If you are getting desperate I have found that simply parachuting out of aircraft and getting kills on the ground works pretty well.
The OG paratroopers.
Feel lonely.
Watch tumbleeds roll somewhere down below.
Spray enemy infantry with mgs and cannons and hope you get more than hit markers.
After emptying guns, go back to wait.
Try to catch the enemy bomber before he suicides.
Only a partial j/k - i just finished grinding the FW in Stalingrad.
-
Be patient and keep oberving the game - mostly doesn’t make sense to spawn in the plane unless enemies do too. Pacific might be a bit better for strafing though.
-
Pray for bomberspam. This is the shit.
-
If enemies are on air and/or bombers are coming, check if fighter slot is free and then drop. fucking. everything. Kill your squad manually if you have to but you gotta shoot down the enemy.
-
If nothing is going on, you can try to lure the enemy by triggering your own bombing run. Therefore rock some comm squads in your line up.
If the enemy bites, check point 3.
Can’t even do this reliably - the entire ammo load (1000 rounds of 7.7) is barely enough to sometimes shoot down even one bomber, meanwhile they shred me with their .50 cals.
What are the gun vectors like for the Pacific bombers? In stalingrad the bombers basically only feel like that they are shooting in a relatively narrow cone behind the plane. Don’t think I’ve ever been shot at from the front at least.
If that’s the case in Pacific too then take your time. Maybe you need to do a diving head on attack shooting at the cockpit, then from almost directly above/ below again, etc?
Bombers’ defensive armament coverage is similar in Pacific, bit that wasn’t the problem in my case as I wasn’t chasing them, I know it’s not the best strategy. Instead, I tried attacking the formation from the front and when I started turning after passing them, it took them just a couple of seconds to make my aircraft all yellow-orange from damage and set it on fire.
Caveat: i was always a relatively shit arcade only pilot in WT so i know next nothing about plane tactics and never tried this myself in enlisted either
Maybe you need to do the attack from more altitude and bring the plane up in a swing without passing them from the rear, but rather do it from in front of the formation, gain a bit of altitude and then do it again?
Well, I’ll try and see what works for me. So far the two best ways I came up to level up this squads is to kill occasional player controlled aircraft (A5M is the most maneuverable aircraft in Pacific so that’s quite easy) and the M13 MGMC that are always present, but always engaged in shredding infantry.
Btw, from what I know the best approach angle for bombers is the front but slightly below and to the side, this way you’re out of reach of its gunners and you get a good shot on its cockpit and engine.
But that’s real life, in Enlisted the only rule is they’re shooting to the back so don’t chase them.
Japan is the only faction that cannot effectively engage bombers. For every single other faction on every single campaign it’s sound advice.
Yep - use the pilot on the ground was how I ground such units prior to the arrival of bombers.
Now I sometimes have them in the lineup but only use them vs bombers - then parachute out and revert to infantry.
And this - absolutely - often kill a squad to fly when I’m trying to grind a plane.
Customs lone fighter dogfights. Fun and intence. I found that in customs players ussually dont just kamikaze in the closesest tank so there are oppurtunities for fightrs actually do something. Also, after loseing pilot you wont be on the ground so long as in squads, couse lasting with only one foot soldier against only real players isnt so easy. So you will back on the sky in no time.
Also shoting down jucy bombers;]
Consider lonefighters on customs.
That’s how I did it, there’s always a plane in the air.
This can be also used with Japanese Tank Crews.
They are usually better on foot than inside the tanks.
Just playing my first battle, guess how well two 7.7 MGs work against the Il-2 or P-51:)
God, this aircraft is so bad…
Though I do seem to earn more XP per battle, so I guess it works anyways.
long time ago they ajusted the xp rates on LF modes, i cant precise if gives less or more xp, but, i did grind all my fighters there, aswell some squads
i used to dislike lonefighters, but, after playing it multiple times, i find myself there alot now
Not only for vehicles, but, I find customs Lf very relaxing and a good source of fun.
It doesn’t face Il-2 or P-51???
It does if you play custom lone fighters.
Or at least the only full server I was able to find had all campaigns enabled.
