Well Canada is a strong mix of Brits (west) and French (east)
So it’s correct. Also, during ww2, we were almost Brits ourselves, being part of what is called “commonwealth”. Maybe that’s why 
As for politics, Canada isn’t immune from usa influence, like for the rest of the world, sadly. Though the next big player is China… wich acts exactly as Usa did, but is based in the east. (We find funny they dislike each others, they resemble each others so much )
