How I would have loved Stalingrad to look

Well, it’s been almost a week since the release and i’ve played the new campaign a lot. While there are some things that i love and some that i don’t like, there one recuring thought in my head that i can’t get used to. Stalingrad just doesn’t… feel right.

For the place that saw the heaviest and most brutal battles… it feels empty. BERLIN does a far better job than Stalingrad at ambiental battle sounds and that mass “URAAA” that you hear in the background. Also Birch Grove feels more like Stalingrad than Stalingrad.

So i remembered some movies that i like and took some screenshots of what i would consider a more atmospheric interpretation of Stalingrad:

Yes i know that this is a artistic interpretation. But i believe that a visual theme like the one in this movie, coupled with some intense background battle sounds would bring this new campaign closer to what we expected.

The problem is that battles end too quickly and easily. Play the soviets and get steamrolled in minutes, play the germans and you win without much resistance making fights boring.

Its a very boring campaign to play compared to Berlin and Normady.

Generally the game is not super immersive/climatic, not only Stalingrad.
Like, I should be hyped for d-day, stalingrad, berlin. But they all just feel like a battle, not the battle.
I have no idea why. Maybe I’m just fed up with ww2 after over a year with this game.

exactly, it feels like a small battle in an empty city, not like a small battle in a city raging with battles

Meanwhile I still haven’t got the achievement for 3 victories when playing as axis. (I’m campain lvl 6 though.)

It depends on the time of day and servers which you play on.
Most of my experience is what I mentioned.

I believe the devs are working a bit on weather effects again (there’s evening battles in Berlin, lamposts are even functional)… So maybe, MAYBE we could see something more… Immersive? with better ambiance? someday.

It is.

It’s a axis dominance on Stalingrad right now.

Imo the only thing regarding campaign (not maps weapons or what ever) they should have done was, making all the levels for Stalingrad avaiable, not only 26.since we had to actually pay for “full campaign” experience.

That battle settings were present in alpha as far as my memory goes. So nothing new. It was just disabled, as current map rotations lacking cool maps and make users play the same ones over and over for 3 months. …

Uh… I didn’t about that, but you’re right… this campaign will probably also have around 40ish lvls eventually, would have been nice to have them all available from the go. On the other hand, it would have been risky for “balance” issue; they often try to correct things by adding better stuff on later lvls for the “weaker” side (which explains the apparition of the big jumbo mistake, followed by panther mistake).

Although Right now equipment in Stalingrad is very well balanced, unlike what some seething mains are claiming. I predict Stalingrad will equalize in about 2 weeks top when axis mains have unlocked all what they want and dilute in other campaigns again and Soviet player have catched up in here

Ahah right.

They have the right opportunity to make a mode where axis is fully encircled x)

Tbh i prefer this particular look for stalingrad. Enlisted is always too bright or too dark so i would like to see some change

Historically Stalingrad looked something like this…

But i prefer the dramatization look for immersion. Something like in other video games.

Which one do you mean you prefer? the actual one or the one from the movie? The actual one i find weird, it’s like you’re always fighting at 6pm with the sun in your eyes blinding you.

the movie one (theres 2 with the same name btw) and any interpretation of it

I know, i’ve seen them both. Also, try Rzhev 2019 if you haven’t seen it. It’s from the battle of Moscow, not Stalingrad… but it’s a good movie nevertheless.

90% of the time in stalingrad Germany was winning/won

Rzhev is a great movie. I’ve seen a couple other new Russian war movies too in the last couple months but Rzhev is definitely the best.
