How does picking weapon mechanism works?

Sometimes you cannot pick up some type of weapon, the pick up button just wiggles. So how it works exactly?

quick press on F pickups a weapon on to a secondary slot if avaiable
press F and hold, it will swap your main weapon for a ground one.

some weapons cant be picked up (donno why never bother with it)

as shown on settings - controls - other.

if the text on screen below just jigles, it means your secondary slot isnt avaiable (upgrades) or you have another weapon there, so you need to press F and hold to replace your main gun .
