I recently unlocked it and I seem to be struggling with it already, does it have a niche of use or is it just plain mediocre at everything? Why run it over a BF-110 or a Ju bomber?
Its the 110 minus the gun run capability but much faster

Just don’t use it. Waste of space along with FW-190.

The Me410 is essentially a heavy fighter, same as the BF110, but which is arguably faster.
When considering the differences between the Me410 and BF110 I think it comes down to preference.
The Me410 is replaced with the Ju88-A2, which is far more effective against ground targets, and now that the gunners have been activated, its pretty lethal in the air defensively speaking.
So if we focus on the intermediate levels, the Me410 has the same “ground” payload / effect of 4 AT rockets as the Bf 110. However, it sacrifices some firepower for time on target and speed.
Looking at the armament, the Bf110 has a 37m, two 30mm and two MGs for rear defence. In contrast the Me410 has two 20mm and two MGs forward and two 20mm cannon for rear defence as well as much more ammo for the 20mm than the Bf 110 G-2 has for its 37 and 30mm respectively.
Now given Enlisted continuing issues with flight and damage models, I have found the Bf110 G-2 to be very effective against US heavy fighters and Bombers, particularly due to the updated 37 and 30mm effects, but completely outclassed by the fighters (unless you catch them off guard) against which it can’t effectively defend itself.
Whilst the Me410’s 20mm and MGs are less effective against the heavy fighters and the bomber, they have more payload to compensate. Although this dangerously drags out the time which you have to commit to the dogfight since you can get jumped by a fighter at any time.
When engaged by fighters the Me410 does have a much meaner set of teeth in defence, and I’ve had good 'ol Hans drop a few off my 6.
Equally if you are fighting at altitude there is an opportunity to put the plane into a slight dive and try to extend out of combat. Some pilots will pursue you, but in that you will have achieved the game objectives by denying bombardment of your own troops and you can at least keep them chasing you for a lot longer than you will with the Bf110 G-2.

The Me410 has less aggressive guns in comparison, but sacrifices guns for maneuverability, which means it’s faster, has better defence and can escape some pilots, not good pilots, but normal pilots, they get a surprise how easily the 410 can keep up and turn too.
Me410 is my go to on Normandy, and Berlin if not using my new sexy gold order FW 190D
