How does damage actually work?

So I watched this video and in it, it seemed quite straightforward- PPD does 5.5 damage, headshots do 1.8x damage, so it does 9.9 damage, and the person will survive with a sliver left.

So, of course I tried to recreate it, and no luck. I shot a lot of enemies, aiming at the top of their head with PPD set to semi-auto, no upgrades, and each time, it either killed or downed them. I was going to test if helmets help against pistols next, but I don’t know if it even matters, if I can’t even get accurate damage data from playing the game. What’s going on?

According to developers, helmets and chestplates do affect damage. Something like 15% decrease if I remember correctly. At the same time it’s true, everything around damage model is at least a little weird in this game.

In CBT era, I tested damage with my friends:
1xdamage at torso, 0.8x dmg at limbs, 2x dmg at neck, 1.8x dmg at head.

This game has a issue of hit registration. Where your looks at may not the actual place enemy get hit. Probably due to PING issue.
Also dont forget weapon dmg drop with the distance

For real?
Is there really a separate neck hitbox?

Apparently not… devs must have silently changed it at some point, because today I experimented and found that both head and neck do 2.1x damage for all weapon types. Helmets do not stop pistol rounds.
