How do I add working Searchlights?

I’m currently making a night-time map, and similarly to any other night map others have made, I feel some searchlights lighting up the sky would be a nice feature to have.

However, I have no clue how to actually do that. I can only ever find searchlights which are off and can’t see the option to turn them on - although I’m assuming it’s more complicated than that anyway.

I know it’s possible as I’ve seen others have done it, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

search light, then try in the list

atmosphere_light

spot_light

etc.

i made one in stalingrad:

first, i placed a reindlist of the model of the search light,

then, i placed another reindlist to simulate that it’s on,

and lastly, i placed an effect called: Projector ( you can also find in all pleacable entity )

Projector doesn’t seem to do anything for me.

i see.

apparently, only works in stalingrad.

well, your other option, i recommend you to spawn any other light, and tweak it’s settings ( distance, brightness, and angles ). ( from the entity section )

Alright. Thanks for your help.

I honestly can’t wait till devs (hopefully) starting adding player made maps to campaigns just like they did in Halo Reach.

That would be nice. I’ve seen some amazing ones.

I mean, they already highlight a few of the greatest, might as well get the mod authors permission to add them in to rotation, maybe with a few tweaks of their own if they need (as even the best mods probably have a few things here or there that need fixing). Most mod authors probably wouldn’t even want payment, they’d be happy enough having their hard work pay off in such a big way that their creations are being put in to the game.

Try place projectors_manager entity as well.

Thank you

Thank you everyone for the help.

I don’t know if a Forum Moderator will see this but if you do, this topic can be closed as question/issue is resolved.

it crashed my editor doing that

hence why i didn’t suggested him to place that.

but i’m glad to hear it works

Maybe it will crash if this manager already exists.

nope, it’s not present on normandy, but if i place it, everything crashes.

weird…

( might be my incompetence as well, or my mission that is buggy since it’s still on the older version )

Yeah it crashes for me on Stalingrad and Moscow but not Normandy at all.

Seems like it’s different for everyone, just an unstable feature that you aren’t really supposed to be messing around with yet I guess.

I found out that you should first delete all projectors and only then create projectors manager. Else it crashes.
