- It is very complicated, I tried making it with terrain editor but it looked bad. how could I make it look better?
you could find Trenches/Entrenchments in Rendinst, you could place it by creating game_rendinst.
These would give you more detailed Trenches than Only editing Terrain.
or, an additional method
is
through prefabs and terraform
so, first, find a trench already placed in the map that you are looking for ( doesn’t necessary have to be on a specific map, just change map, find one that you like the shape and what not ( i usually recommend Moscow, and normandy/berlin. those have more types and shapes of trenches compared to other maps )
then, Select " Toolbox " at the top Right;
and select " Rendinst "
you’ll noticed some text appeared:
then, select one part of the trench with the square pointer:
after that, press the " within " button in the toolbox
click it multiple times just to be sure everyone is getting picked up.
( in case something did not get picked up, just hold alt and the left click it to include it to the current selection )
then, after that you are done with your selection, click " instance " in the toolbox
and as you can see, you have a selection. that way, you just cloned the trenches and you can move them around.
but what i suggest you to do, is to save them through prefabs. so you can reuse them if you need. and in order to do that; just press PREFAB next to Toolbox always on the top right:
make sure the trench or objects that you want are still selected, and then click " create prefab from selected " to the top left:
click it, give it a name, and there you go. it will be saved in the prefabs which you can double click on the prefab that you saved, and it will spawn it there.
once you have done with that, you can customize them as you want and what not.
in this example, i’ll clone it and put it next to the other:
from here, you need to select the Toolbox, and then terraform:
and from here, you want to make sure to be tweaking the elevator and brush radious depending your trench.
and start shaping or removing the ground based on your necessities.
additionally, if you have some grass / tress that you don’t need / want, just use the grass eraser:
and voilà, you are good to go.
you can also change them and what not, but be mindful that the " prefab " block if moved or deleted, will move / remove accordingly all related objects. so you wanna be a bit carefull of what you move / remove.
and lastly, if you use the first method, of making individual trenches through rendinst_decors make sure to use the parts named " cap " because that’s artifical ground designed for that specific trench that you are trying to use.
as using the terraform can be a nightmare.
but, another issue that arise with using caps, sometimes they clip:
so you want to be carefull about it. and unfortunately, you can’t really remove them through terraform as those are in a pre placed object.
you can’t really modify their hitboxes and what not.
