We are in the middle of a huge event, have some patience. Japan and US doesn’t even have assault rifles yet.

Is there something wrong with asking if they have chosen units and their outfits yet? Or is it wrong to do so?
The M2 could be said to be an “assault rifle” being a intermediate cartridge, shoulder fired weapon with a select fire option.
Full disclosure, an argument could be made that it’s a submachine gun due to the cartridge being, at least, ballistically, closer to a “pistol cartridge”, that being .357 Magnum. Although if it were to be placed in that category, it would be placed, along with the likes of the MP5 in more of an “automatic pistol caliber carbine” firing as it does from a closed bolt.
While the Type Hei Auto was designed as a light machine gun, the Federov Avtomat is a proto assault rifle in 6.5 Arisaka, and I’m not aware of any Japanese research in to LESS powerful rifle calibers.
What would something more assault rifle-like even be for the two?

They developed the 6.5×30mm cartridge, a prototype Type 2a SMG chambered in this cartridge was made.
This is the only “assault rifle” that Japan can get.
