Heavy Machine Guns for All

I always thought to myself HMGs would be a great addition to the game, and I was honestly surprised to see they were going to be added. More toys for the Engineer the better. In their current implementation they are only buidable by Engineers in Machine Gun squads only. I feel they should be available for all Engineers.

Thoughts?

no.

overall they good.

I like the idea of limiting them, the other engineers can build the normal machine guns, I would like them to maybe revisit their choice of the MG 131 which is completely ridiculous, and it would be nice if there was a better option for Tunisia, the Breda Model 1931 for instance.

It isn’t since it was used and no thank you, I don’t want a downgrade just because it’s Italian.

The Breda model 31 would be basically identical to the Japanese heavy machine gun which from my limited experience in game is vastly better than the MG 131 because it has a better field of fire and my assumption is that the guns are modeled pretty ridiculously in terms of their affect on target and probably fairly equally so I doubt the MG 131 has its rate of fire anywhere near its realistic rate so I think in game terms the Hotchkiss is the better gun.

MG 131’s Used in the ground roll was a very Erzats type of application and only done so at the very end of the war not in the middle of the war and it was certainly by no means commen, I just really think they could’ve made better choices, even a duel MG 34/42 Mount would of been better, an appropriate for any timeframe

No because the MG built by Engineer 2 is amazing and paired with the other will be catastrophic.

One of the highlight of the heavy mg is it can penetrate light tank. Mg34/42 just can’t do it, and German player will complain why they receive another mg34/42, while other faction receive big toy.

I also like the idea of limiting them to engis in MG squads only, tbh. It could get out of control and OP really really easily.

They’re already a problem, the boxes/sandbags or whatever they are built apon are indestructible, HE does nothing.

Well why not just give the normal engineer squad HMG’s, and the Machine Gunner engineers normal mg nests?

I’d say it is too bulky/restrictive to be used effectivelly. I had to near-pixel hunt for the right spot to build an mg nest with engineer 2s.

As for OPs suggestion…
I can see some logical progression with this, and it does make MG squads stand out and have a tool of their own. AT squads, are likelly to get a similar treatment - they probably are going to get larger AT guns to fiddle around with (while engineers will either have the old AT guns, or it will be repaced by infantry guns). I guess it could be similar with other squads.

Now this is an interesting suggestion.
Dedicated squads, with engineers added on could build the basic variant of the weapon they are trained to operate, while engineers could build all the imrpoved forms…
I think I’d want to see engineer 2s build improved forms, while engineer 1s build the basic forms.

HMG’s should not really be able to pen a tank, if they could do this IRL they would of been used as AT weapons, they were not.

Certainly under ideal circumstances it was posable for them to do so, some of them like the 50 cal could pen around 20’ish mm at point blank range, but they had small bullets, and they would of had very little energy left once they penetrated.

So this comes down to a game play feature, Enlisted has a great many unrealistic elements to it, and having HMG be tank killers is yet another one.

The MG 131 for example had a lower MV than say .50 call so was not really even capable of penetrating IRL, at not in theory the way a 50 cal could again under ideal circumstances.

One other interesting thing about the MG 131 is that it needed power to work, and apart from training stands or test stands, and the odd erzats last ditch applications it was not really ever used in a general since as a ground weapon.

The Ammunition used electric primers.

Not the batterie on this test stand:

Debatable, I saw many people saying 50cal is able to pen lightly armor Japan tank.

I’ve thought about how these HMGs could pave the way for more specialized constructs depending on class. We’ll just to see how things turn out

I always thought eventually they’d add heavier anti tank guns to the Engineers, in lieu of HMGs. I thought this before the HMGs were first announced

Depends on the angle and distance to the target, and a light round like the 50 cal would again do very little damage even if it did pen and would far more prone to bouncing or breaking on impact.

Were also assuming they are firing AP and not Ball ammo, and it was more common that Ball was used especially in a ground role, as it was largely considered to be ineffective against armor anyway irl. But that really depends on the situation.
