HEAT Warhead fail to penetrate

just a question : are heat warhead from handheld AT weapon in this game did have minimum range to properly penetrate or not? since in so many time i failed to penetrate a tank from close range with PIAT/Sturmpistole even when i aim for side or rear armor of the tank (which obviously would penetrate since that part of the tank is the weakest)

Piat, sturmpistole, m1bazooka, panzerfaust, need at least 5/10m distance otherwise it is not effective, it seems that the warhead activates after it is fired, if it fires at close range it does no damage

that’s good to know, but it’s absolute nonsense historically. None of these weapons are sophisticated enough for minimum arming distances.

HEAT warheads have very little initial penetration. They rely on the “Monroe Effect” to form a molten jet of metal that does penetrate but has zero explosive power.
In this game, you basically need to aim for the ammo rack locations.
The best way to discover where they are located for the enemy tanks in the campaign that you are in, is by spending time at the practice range and paying full attention to the “x-ray” view in the kill cam which will show the interior modules

do not tell me, look I tried in berlin to shoot the t34-85 with the panzerfaust while standing on the turret, I exploded  , after I tried from about 20m away instant kill :upside_down_face:

Because of the initial arc of the warhead after firing, if you’re super close you need to aim super low, sometimes even at the ground below the tanks tracks

Basically this. It’s a pain, but it’s really the only way to do close-range combat with a tank. Look at the ground under it’s tracks and pull the trigger.
