HE rounds doing literally nothing now

I have played tank for a long time and even some AT gun and I’ve never had an issue with the HE rounds but in the last few weeks I’ve noticed that HE barely kills or does damage I hit an area with a high concentration of enemies and I get nothing no hits no kills nothing I don’t understand why HE does nothing now if they’re gonna make it worthless just ditch it and give more AP rounds (HE highly Explosive) (AP Armour Piercing).

Arw you shooting HEs with 37mm cannon or something like that?

The PZ IV 75 Is still somewhat effective but, the 45 of the soviet Is atrocius you literally Need to shoot under the enemy soldier to kill.

The 45mm 5/6 months ago was 150% more effective

Didnt test other vehicles for the Moment

Pz4 f2 for example on Moscow.

Rounds just disapear. But, one hits a single inf, everyone dies on a radius of 281619 kms. Either way, feels… Strange. Less powerfull, or, something regarding the wood pen I m still yet to figure.

Tigers 88

The amount of tiger 88 HE I fire that becomes like a dud is insane like literally nothing happens like a ghost round

Yes something happen.but it’s strange that ain’t all matches. Some matches shit work wonders. Others, rounds disapear into oblivium

Yea sometimes I’ve noticed that one match I put a He from my tiger into a guys torso and he didn’t die get knocked or anything just walked off

HE sure does bounce alot.

Bounce is one word for it I would say disappears the second it leaves the barrel

I’m noticing my T28-E can shoot rounds at other tanks and it does nothing. The MG will kill infantry but the main 76m canon bugs and it’s like shooting ghost enemy tanks. I think my brother reproduced it with the M3 but this problem only happens in Moscow

It’s a ricochet. When colliding with map elements, high-explosive shells now ricochet. Here is the news about it. Projectiles do not ricochet against active objects (infantry, equipment, engineering buildings) - they like them. So, I did not shoot a tank gun at the ground, buildings and other objects on the map - they are disgusting to shells, and therefore shells will ricochet off them. Shoot at bots and tanks - shells love them, and therefore they will stick to them and stay with them forever.

I m aware of that, but isn’t the cause of my problems. Ghost shells are.

No. This is exactly a ricochet. There’s an idiotic calculation system: if the collision angle is more than 5 degrees, but less than 45 degrees, then the probability of a ricochet is much higher than 50%. By the way, with a collision angle of 90 degrees, the probability of a ricochet is higher than 0%, and with a collision angle of 5 degrees or lower, it is equal to 100%. After the ricochet, the projectile can hit another target, but it cannot explode. It looks like they used a ricochet system from small arms.

So useless !!

Yup. I use field guns quite a bit as I always have an engineer squad on my roster. Not even talking about bounces, I’ve had shells hit and detonate directly next to squads, and sometimes even hit squads directly and little to no damage is done.

To note, with some testing I found out that at long range, the shells seem to more often register the damage correctly. I was on Pacific “Tenaru River” as Japanese offense.

  • I went up the hill on the left and put down the field gun. Perfect angle, could even shoot down into some trenches.
  • Distance was about 80-150m that I could cover
  • Shells were landing directly into entire squads, but often wouldn’t get kills.

We managed to capture the objective, and it pushed down to the beach shack.

  • I stayed in roughly the same location, just adjusting position a little and had a beautiful angle.
  • Range was 310-360m.
  • Nearly every shot that landed even close to enemies registered and killed.

To sum it up, range seems to effect the HE. The further the distance, the more likely it is to register. At least for the field gun.

I play the majority of my game play in tanks, and I can assure you the HE rounds do plenty. You just need to understand how the explosive radius works.

They do not just explode in a big bubble in every direction like most games. They instead explode in a cone that spreads outwards from the surface it impacted. Unless that surface is a "soft’ surface that the explosion would normally pen through. Like a person or a bit of wood. Then it will blast out in a sphere like radius around it.

If you want to hit infantry with HE rounds. You need to either hit them directly, or hit a surface near and behind them. I find hitting a ceiling above them while they are in a house or bunker to be particularly effective. It causes the cone to spread downward and gives you a wider coverage.

I would advise against trying to hit the ground at their feet. While it does work to an extent, it can be hard to tell where to aim at moderate to extreme distances. Your rounds will usually end up hitting much shorter than you intended. (Edit: To clarify, hitting the ground in front or even at the center of a group of infantry will do little to nothing to them. It needs to impact behind them for the blast radius to hit them)

While its a shame that HE does not just blast in a sphere like radius (like aircraft rockets apparently do), its probably for the best that they do not. Tanks can be oppressive enough without being able to AOE a 5 foot radius with every shot.

It’s wierd as I could hit a guy center mass in the stomach and it will not damage him or any of the enemies in the sqaud literally 1m away from him like I’m pretty sure a lot of my tank rounds are ghost rounds it’s even happend with the little cars you can drive I hit them with HE and they don’t get damaged at all then the next time they just go boom it’s really just like a big 50/50 I think

Its possible that your rounds are missing and landing somewhere you are not looking. There is some deviation to rounds, just like there is to bullets.

I would recommend not aiming center mass on infantry and aiming more around their hips and knees. That way if you miss to the left or right of them your round might land behind them and kill them anyways. The downside of this is that your round might deviate downwards and hit the ground in front of them instead.

Really, the best bet is to aim for objects behind them instead and simply machine gun enemies who are in the open. Do not forget you can pop out of the turret and shoot enemies with your commander’s primary in a pinch! An SMG can take out a squad as quickly as any other weapon. You also get the benefit of being able to duck into your tank for reloading and not having a penalty to your aim while your tank moves under you.

I tried hitting a sqaud twice with HE and I can confirm I hit I watched it hit and if it missed it would of hit the wall right behind him and killed him either way the shot ghosted and I watched it happen and yes popping out with the smg can be very helpful
