I was just wondering what everyone’s thoughts on a hardcore game mode (similar to how there’s Squad and Lone Fighter modes) would be. I was thinking this game mode would allow for more realism such as friendly fire is fully on. There could also be reduced movement based on weight carried, and this could prevent things like bunny hopping and quick spin kills.
Ex: if you turn a corner, and you accidentally shoot a friendly, it now kills them, or at least injures them depending on where they got hit. It could also be no HUD if needed or wanted.
Also, this is unrelated, but if anyone is interested with playing with no HUD, just hit Ctrl+Shift+G.
If it became a problem, I was thinking they could implement some sort of teamkill mechanism where if you get X teamkills within a certain time frame (whether that be minutes, hours, or games) that they could lock you out of the game mode until the next day. Then, if you continue to do it, each lockout gets progressively longer.
And how does a new optional mode prevent it from being casual?
And would receive spawn penalties and would think twice waiting an extra minute for next spawn whether that half megatonne bomb they released blindly was a good idea or not.
It works in other games, it may or may not work here - I’m willing to try it out.
The charm of FF in other games is that tools are built in to vote kick players. If you add something that can be used to grief/troll, you need a way to balance it. The downside is the vote kick system can also end up being used to try and remove a player that is doing well, or just spammed over and over for the sake of trolling. I know in RS2, you’ll get games with new commanders that’ll accidently TK 15 of his own guys from arty, and get vote kicked from his role or the entire server. even though it was an honest mistake, the team just doesn’t want to risk it. I can see why it’s easier at the moment to just leave it off.
I see spawn penalties being a good work around, but how do you handle the attack/fighter pilot that is suddenly getting 20 total kills from a bomb run, 10 of which being his own men? Is that fully his fault? Or actual danger close situations with arty onto the objective, and killing your own guys?
If it’s near fifty-fifty I would not care, also if some markers are around, put there by other team members then friendly kills should not count for aircraft. But that’s something that will need fine tuning. As I never played these kind of games there are more informed people here who can tell their personal experiences.
I am in strong support of such a game mode. There should also be no killcam in hardcore mode. You can TK with artillery as of now, so I don’t see the issue there. Maybe disable TK for planes to not make it too annoying for the infantry/difficult for the pilot. Otherwise they could impose penalties on people who TK often.
I like the idea of a Hardcore/Realistic mode, and since War Thunder has Realistic and Simulation modes it should be a familiar concept. I think it would come down to taking away the arcade shooter elements, so something like:
Slightly slower movement and slower pace in general
Fewer respawns for the player, so that players do not waste their troops
No skull markers, perhaps no hit markers even
Friendly fire (like in WT, if you continue to TK you’re returned to main menu) – as for aircraft, arty and tanks, I think slightly different penalties should apply, but those penalties should still discourage them from blindly dropping ordnance
And like in WT, rounds would be slightly longer in duration but would give you more XP
The only issue is that, unlike WT, an Enlisted battle is naturally kind of a meat grinder, and it would be a shame to take that away in Realistic mode. Maybe Realistic mode should be such that different squad types are required to cooperate in order to take objectives?
I just want an Eastern Front map with actual Eastern front engagement distances. Manning the trenches and AT to see a platoon of German armor rolling toward you on the Steppe…
It doesn’t have to be a meat grinder if cap zones are large. Darkest Hour mod for Red Orchestra uses this, it works really well. You need and overwhelming presence in the cap zone to start capturing and there is enough place for everyone, don’t have to rush into a single house like we do here. Cooperation is paramount but not to some extreme degree like in Squad. Experienced players know when to set smoke, how to push with tanks, where to set MG cover.
So far Enlisted reminds me that mod a lot, it’s kind of like someone made a more “arcade” version of it, with markers and no team kills.
