Half track

Am I the only one that is sad that the only way to get a actual half track is to buy it?

I hope we will at least be able to earn a Sd.Kfz. 251 and M3 half track in an event

No no, not the M3. The Commies can HAVE my M3

Now? I want the M5 Halftrack, and all the bonuses that come with it (bigger bed = more room = more troop capacity)

Since there is an actual tech tree squad present now, it bodes well for the addition of other variants.

there are alot of nifty variants that could fill this slot.

Glad its not just premium only.

M5 was almost exclusively used as lend lease to the UK,.

Also the M5 armour was homogenous, not face hardened, so not a effective as on the M3.

Typical figures are M3 could be penetrated by 7.62AP ammo at 200 yards, the M5 at 300 yards.

M5 was also not any larger than M3 - but was slower due thicker armour being fitted to try to counter the less effective homogenous armour.

You might be thinking of the M2 - which was a smaller H/T originally designed to be an artillery tractor, so not needing the large transport capacity of hte M3

I’ve read that the M5 was near identical to the M3 except the bed was larger

Well there is like 4 models of the sd. Kfz 251 ausf A - D. So theres like 3 other varients they could use. Nevermind the fact there were rivited versions of some of the earlier models. Then there is like over dozen varients made for each model.

Bigger and heavier=easier target.
WW2 APCs relied on speed and camouflage not to get hit because anything more powerful than smallarms could doom the vehicle or its passengers.
Having a larger vehicle could be a disadvantage.

I want big troop capacity

Near identical = yes

But the difference in armor is well documented

along with other big things I guess - but you get a maximum of about 12 in any WW2 APC, 18 in an LVT - for more than that you have to wait for LVTP-5’s (30 or so) … biggest soviet is BTR 50 with 20 I think…

So the LVT would be the best, got it

Idk much about the use of half-track but they are either hiding or shooting from afar right?

Cause if we somehow got a half-track that use AT gun instead of mg I’m definitely staying far away

Well they were simpler and cheaper to make than full track vehicles. They were used as APC, SPAA, SPG, cargo carriers, all sorts of things

And yes, SPG’s. As in big ol guns mounted to these things. See M3 75mm GMC
