Gunner doesn't shoot in Ju 188 A-2

I tried to understand why my gunner (I have only one) doesn’t shoot in enemies at back neither in front of me.
I even tried to fly over the enemy, imagining that the gunner was under the aircraft, but nothing happens.
All other Aircrafts with gunner works ok. Am I doing something wrong?

Have a look see if this helps

idk what gun first gunner takes. he could easily take the gun above cockpit that has limited angles that can shoot only up and behind.

yeah - almost certainly manning the rear-upper gun first

If you are pursuing an enemy, and the enemy aircraft is infront of you, you need to be slightly below his aircraft.
And once you’re below the aircraft, from the center of your JU-188’s console/crosshair, the enemy aircraft needs to be slightly to the right, or slightly to the left. (if you have your crosshair, pointed directly towards the enemy aircraft, your A.I. will not shoot.)

This might help.

Yeah, once you adjust yourself below the enemy aircraft (like in the photo), just wait for your gunner to start shooting, and simply experiment with their range/angle of firing. So long as you remember to not align your crosshair on the enemy aircraft, your gunners should open fire. (use the freelook mechanic with your pilot, to watch your A.I.'s tracers)

Sometimes they will knock out enemy aircraft immediately, and other times they will empty all of their ammunition and not hit shit.

Also, you have two separate gunners who can shoot at aircraft ahead of you.
One gunner will shoot at aircraft in the upper right quadrant of your screen, and the other gunner shoots at the aircraft in the upper left quadrant of your screen.

And always pay attention to their ammo. If they start opening up at an enemy aircraft, it doesn’t take long for your gunners to run-dry. (so if they stop shooting, even though you’re in a good position, you better fly back and rearm)

Thanks i4i , robihr (I tried to change the point of view in ‘Choose vehicle’ screen as you did but I didn’t find how to do it. I saw in a Youtube one user dragging with the cursor, but didn’t worked with me), SheepleRnutz (your scheme was perfect!), so much for all of you!
Only to try to understand how it works, I have only 1 gunner, latter in another battle he started to shot in the enemies in front , but it seems the enemy must be a bit distant and like the SheepleRnutz scheme, at a bit at right our left above.
I will take more attention to try to clarify the function of each one and give more info here.
Thanks for all of you!

I have just used the replay feature (I didn’t know it, its a great feature! All your replays! - News - Enlisted ) and realized the first gunner stay in the front, next to the pilot.

Thanks for all your help.
I’ve just completed the crew and want to share what it seems to me.
The first gunner stay next to pilot (it seems a machinegun), the second one in the top of the aircraft shotting to the back an have 360 degree view (it seems another machinegun), the third in the gun under a bit lower than the third gunner (it seems to me another machine gun) and the last one in what seems to be a canon under the aircraft.

I don’t understand why in the description of the aircraft there are 3 machine guns and 2 canons since I could only found 3 machine guns and 1 canon.

Maybe I’m wrong, anyone noticed the same thing?

According to war thunder wiki, the guns on top and nose(the gun beside your player-controlled pilot) is like what @robihr said, is the MG151 (20mm) (blue circles). The MG131 (13mm) is marked with the red circle.

But you might wonder: “where the hell are my MG81s? Did they got eaten by the game?”
Answer is here (which took me 10 mins to get my 5 days earlier replay to take the photo):

You can see from the angle below that 2 mg barrels are in fact on stuck together, which makes the “MG81 x2”

About the Mg131: The gun is actually able to fire directly upwards!

About the MG 151 (ball dorsal turret): 360 degrees as @robihr said

Also the cannons and mgs do not need time to rotate

To sum up about the gunner position here. 0 is the pilot you can control. 1st and 2nd gunners you can are Mg151 gunners (labelled as 1 and 2 on their blue heads in the photo below). The third is the red Mg131 gunner, which is the best performing gun in my opinion. Last but not least, the “MG 81 x2” gunner is in green. Though its 7.92, the gun’s velocity and fire rate are quite high, meaning it can tag enemies easily, and it might get you kill credit when a tree or building decided to yeet the enemy plane.
The dead zone for the whole plane is obviously the area right behind the tail since the last gunner should cover the area behind and slightly below the plane.
