Hi,
I can understand that Gaijin want to introduce some grind, but the soldier tiers are stupid in my opinion.
Here a suggestion for a change.
- Only one tier for all soldiers.
- Instead of grinding crews for the possibility to level them (in the red tab), give each team small bonus things you can research for the class.
= You can keep your grind level and gameplay is more interesting in my point of view.

The tier 2 is the abstractation of riequipped/veteran soldier but is to grindy so i agree
I believe OP is suggesting that we should be levelling up each individual soldier (class?), rather than constantly rerolling them through the academy. The grind itself doesn’t have to change, nor do the mechanics around perks - But I think there might be an issue with unlocks feeling way too slow and minor that way. And I like having some choice in what soldier types I bring on the squads. Idea needs work!
I don’t mind the perk system myself (apart from the accursed vitality perk to survive bolt action hits, yuck) - But I hate trying to “set up my squad” when I have to constantly shuffle them around, play bad ones, then sacrifice them on the academy altar. They feel impermanent. I think it would be much better if soldiers were levelled through some combination of bronze orders/experience, without the micromanagement and constant rerolling.
Another option would be to give soldiers a new XP bar towards a star rank, with other soldiers able to be “sacrificed” to grant this XP. It would essentially function the same as the academy, but much smoother, I think.
Yeah, it’s annoying, that on top of grinding, I have to do all that tedious management of my soldiers. I’d rather have a bit more grind and less management, because at least then I’m actually playing the game and not just clicking through clunky menues.
I thought he was talking about the type I and II (and in some cases III) soldiers??
Having to start the grind again from lvl 1 for each new type is truly irritating

Well, I was speaking a bit more generally. The thing is, the management aspect becomes even more annoying with different soldier tiers.
Exactly. The more you unlock, the more annoying it gets - Especially because so many of them are duplicate tier 1 and 2 versions. All this seems pretty redundant. I probably spend half my time in this game navigating the labyrinthine menu system, trying to figure out which squad I’m supposed to level, who has my weapons, where the good soldier went… etc
I would also prefer more grind, less management (and less randomness)
Yes this too - even at only moderate level in Berlin (Campaign 9) I’m deleting ALL my L1 fighter pilots, gunners, engineers since I get plenty of level 2’s - thinking the level 2’s will be redundant soon!
Can’t wait to see how much xp tier III Squads need. Surprisingly I don’t mind them being more grindy: they have better perk stats. As such it’s must easier to put all your tier III soldiers with the +35% health perk wich, as we know, gives a real advantage. You got to be extremely lucky with a tier 1 to have enough for such perks. My point is I’d rather not see too many soldiers with such powerful perks on the field, I like that it limits them in a way. Sure is grindy though…
I honestly wish they’d remove that perk altogether. I dislike how it affects bolt action gameplay, and how much better than all the other perks it is. Ideally you want it on every soldier. The AI’s become far more dangerous and useful with it, but in terms of gameplay experience, the only way it affects players is to frustrate the people shooting at it. They did nerf it a bit though, so that helped. Used to be 40%
