Grind is steep and rewards are pitiful

To get a single soldier to 5 stars could take you hundreds of hours due to the rewards systems being so greedy and unfair to free to play players.

You need hundreds of soldiers you’re ok with throwing away FOREVER and never being able to get them back in order to use the high level gear.

Because it takes 2 soldiers going MIA to make the remaining third into a 2 star soldier. Eventually you need, if my math is correct, 62 soldiers to create a single level 5 soldier, who can have random skills that make him actually actively worse than a level 3.

You desperately need to work on how soldiers aquire levels. The academy just feels predatory and means that paying players have MASSIVE advantages over non paying players. It’s not a matter of “But I can still kill them in 1 shot though”. Yes, you can still snipe a level 5 general. But that level 5 general also can move faster, shoot more accurately, and survive more than you can. He can have access to abilities you physically cannot, and that’s still something to be thought about when you’re talking about literally thousands of bodies over the course of a game.

Imagine a race where everyone ran say…5% faster than you. Just because all the other racers bought some new sports shoes that gave them that advantage.

It might seem super close when you’re doing short sprints, but in a marathon, being 5% better at ANYTHING than your competition is a lead and you would be stupid to dismiss it.

Because it’s eventually going to get to that point. When players are able to buy their way into having 9 rank 5 soldiers and you have none, you’ll feel it and matches will sway farther and farther into the bulldozer zone, which is something already happening a lot.

You get random 4 stars during bronze order exchanges

I honestly don’t think soldier perks are the biggest (((P2W))) vibe to be contended with.

Friend of mine doesnt even bother with exchanging his soldiers via academy and he is in the top 3 regularly.

There’s a lot of issues with this game for sure. IDK if this is the priorty though, not saying it shouldn’t be looked at.

Current state of the game? I can’t recommend it. Fortunately this is a long term endeavor and patches/changes are coming down the pipeline. If you don’t like what you see , check back in after a patch  You’ll be refreshed and with a new outlook

You can now more or less control leveling on some soldier classes. The key is to put 1 soldier you want to get back and then fill with 2 soldiers of another class that are lower in the table of classes. This guarantees you get your good guy back.

But, it means that you should plan the builds beforehand and hope they get enough stats as they gain levels for the perks you want.

I just wish we could arrange them in desired class order in our barracks based on the playstyle. For instance, I don’t use bombers at all. They should be at the bottom of the list. And Troops should be on top of the list so that every other class could convert to a Trooper.

Levels depend on how highly you rate the different perks. Most perks are fairly meh and not game changing, the only one that is, imo, is the medpack usage speed. Most classes can get enough perk points in speed to unlock medpack speed by 3 stars, some need 4 (bombers, gunners). A lot of it depends on how lucky you get with stat rolls when you train soldiers. In my current German lineup for normandy, 24/27 soldiers have the perks I want, and only three of them are 4 stars, and one is 5 stars.

IMO the only 5 star troops that are a big benefit are 2 tankers (one for loader perk, one for gunner perk). The recoil reduction while standing is okay, but really not worth it unless you won’t lose anything for it (i.e. running out of soldiers with medpack speed to use in squads).

Essentially, 5 star soldiers are largely overrated.

Simply being a 5 star soldier gives them literally zero benefit over a 1 star soldier, btw. The only upgrades you get are via the perks. Stat points don’t change your speed, weapon handling or health pool, for example, nor do you need a 5 star soldier to use any specific gear.

My last bronze troop order got me a 4 star and a two star guy. So… it’s not always grindy.

Is not grindy is to rng

I’ll agree with that, having to roll the right stats for certain classes is a real pain in the arse.

especially when it keeps giving you pilots

dude all i ever get from random orders is 75% tank crew or pilots wtf am i gonna do with more rank4 pilots and tank crew when i already have all crew men at level 5?

What i dont have is enough troopers to keep upgrading.

But i also have enough snipers that i could fill several squads full of max rank sniper 3s (i sent my Sniper 1s and 2s to the rear).

Someone made an excel sheet earlier to support his observation that always useless units are received from random troops, but it turned out that it is just … random troops (after like 50?). And my 4 star guys from random was so far an assaulter, an engineer and a pilot, first two are in the three squads I use, so I feel lucky.

After a while youll realise that you get far more troop orders than you can use quickly enough, so like me you’ll start using them and then just throwing out troops you don’t want. My last batch of troops i acquired i probably deleted 50% of them for just being shit i didn’t want heh.

You see all these players with mountains of bronze orders they have no use for not even 3 months since the final wipe and you think it’s still grindy?

Had like 150 bronze troop orders just a week ago and still have over a hundred for weapons. Dumped about 100 troop orders into random troops and then immediately dismissed all the that had 1 star as I’ve reached reserve limit.
After the change, that you don’t need to do battletasks anymore to get bronze, orders are accumulated rather fast.
Getting rank I 5 start soldiers is easy, wait for when you need to unlock levels for your rank 2, this is where “fun” begins.

That is BS and I get the same thing. They need some sort of feature where you can trade in 4 tankers for a trooper or something.

This whole post shows a complete lack of knowledge of game mechanics, so lets break it down.

Ummm… Sure, if you don’t try to get 5 star soldiers it “could” indeed take a while.

Gear level has absolutely nothing to do with soldier level

  1. Assuming your math is correct, that would be assuming every single soldier is a one star at start. Many soldiers start out in the level 2-3 and sometimes even 4 region to begin with. So it would actually be much less than this.
  2. You could just reroll the soldiers perks… If you don’t know about this feature you obviously don’t know much about the games features.

No they don’t lol. Wow, they get 2x training speed. That means pretty much nothing.

All I can say again is LOL. The level 5 can move faster, yes a whopping 10%. Shoot more accurately, no they cant, they could have a lower recoil stat, but that would use most of their points for strength, and still wouldn’t make them shoot lasers like you’re claiming. And survive more, no not really. Yes the +35% vitality perk is a thing, but the +75% medkit speed and medkit health bonus perk is a much better combo that can be used on level 3 and some level 2 soldiers. Also the move speed and accuracy perks can be used on most level 4 soldiers as well.

So we shouldn’t reward players for playing the game by giving them a slight advantage?

Your suggestion is filled with some interesting information that while technically true, is being skewed to your viewpoint. On top of some that just isn’t true. It’s obvious what you’re asking for, that all players should have the same base level troops so everyone can run around with the same meta perks. Players would not be rewarded for their time spent in game. The troops cards would be straight up useless because there wouldn’t be any levels (or at least no point to leveling).
The troops system is fine as is, and actively encourages people to attempt to level up their troops for a slight benefit.

it would be really cool

Or better yet lets us trade a certain number of bronze orders for silver … That way you are sure to get the soldier you actually want …

it’s even better indeed!!

I got nearly every time a soldier class i don’t play with bronze order. :triumph:

Yes. The game is way too grindy. This game (like War Thunder) just has a dedicated whale fanbase it seems. Shouldn’t need to be said but this is an OBT and still the very early days of the game - if the grind, power creep and all this other nonsense is this bad now with this limited amount of content, just imagine what it will be like two years down the road when they’ve added a bunch more content (and power creep). It will be like War Thunder but on foot.

In my opinion the most annoying part about troop orders is that you end up with 50 pilots if you don’t constantly send them to the rear. I’d like the ability to at least exclude pilots, tankers and mortarmen from the random bronze orders.
