everything in the title, why not give infantry basic soldiers ability to dig holes ? could be fun!

It’s already in game. Go to shop to melee weapon section and you can buy a shovel there. Yes, it can dig.

Not a problem friend, always good to learn.
Heres a tip with Shovels as well, if you have a soldier with the melee speed increase perk, you actually dig faster as well!

Dont worry it just means something isnt as intuitive as it could have been.
Troops were issued shovels and bayonets/knives, it should be a separate tool in my opinion
