Even though it’s a semi-automatic rifle, the Geweher 41 reload animation shows ammunition loading from the top of the weapon, rather than a new magazine. Other weapons that are not manual reload by magazine, and therefore have separate ammo counts for each magazine. The 41 however loads two strips of ammo for 10 bullets, even if you only have a single bullet in your one remaining pseudo-magazine. If you have 3 bullets loaded and 1 remaining and you reload, you will swap pseudo-magazines instead, and end up with 1 loaded and 3 remaining.
I think the weapon should reload like a semi-automatic weapon, but with ammo counts that are not multiples of five, it should load like a manual weapon. This is not only an animation suggestion, but a gameplay suggestion as well, because it does not make sense at all why you would be swapping magazines that shouldn’t exist.
That’s why the Gewehr 41 feels wrong. You could individually insert 10 bullets, but the game sees it as 10 per magazine. There is only one magazine, and that’s the bottom of the gun. If the animation inserts bullets by the strip rather than the magazine, then it should be reflected in the ammo counts. Reloading an MP38 will switch magazines, reloading a Vz. 24 will top off the magazine, but the Gewehr, which reloads like a manual bolt-action, will switch magazines, unlike what is expected.
the simplest solution would be to make ammo detection much more apparent, in order to trigger certain reload animations:
-9 to 6 bullets left in the gun —> soldier loads bullet by bullet
-5 bullets left in the gun —> soldier loads one stripper clip
-1-4 bullets left in the gun —> soldier loads one stripper clip and then bullet by bullet
-no bullets left in the gun —> soldier loads the gun exactly how its loaded currently by whichever amount of ammo is left in the gun
the alternative to this would be for the soldier to just eject whatever bullets there are in the gun, and reload 2 stripper clips, which wouldnt make sense especially if gewehr 41 doesnt have such option
British rifles have half this, they reload 4 bullets if 6 are left. But if there are 5 or less left he will always shove 2 stripped clips in no matter what.
Also the 1917 Enfield reloads 5 bullets one at a time or a stripper clip and 1 bullet ONLY if all bullets were shot.
It’s like the devs half ass attempted to get it right but then gave up half way through.
i did say it before and ill say it again, this game has a whole lot of sanding, polishing, and finishing touches needed to be done to it, and right now the game is a crude casting.
well… the m1917 enfield DOES have 6 round capacity, and americans/british never made a 6 round stripper clip
I know there isn’t a 6 round stripper clip, but when you shoot 5 bullets you don’t put a stripper clip in, but you put in 5 bullets one at a time. You only use a stripper clip if 6 shots are shot.
anyway the game has the strangest reload system in the world,
if I have an mp40 with which I spend half the bullets of each weapon since it has 4 magazines, but you would have more than 5 magazines, more than 6 until you have 1 bullet and a reloading one, which is illogical
