Gas masks as cosmetics

Like the title says, I would like to be able to add gas masks on my soldiers as cosmetics.
I already saw topics on the forum about it, most of you were against the idea.
The most arguments I’ve seen are :

  • It was not used a lot by soldiers, only few of them (ofenrohr and flamethrower).
  • The game would look to much like Battlefield or any innacurate games.

I’m writing this topic to show that even if gas masks were not used by the majority of soldiers, many of different classes were using it from time to time. I’ll write specifically about German Gas Mask, I’ve not enough knowledges about other countries.

Here is one of the masks that could be available for cosmetics.
During the war, Germany produced magnetic gas masks due to a lack of supplies, the magnetic parts being blue.

Here are some footage of german soldiers wearing gas masks during trainings.

An picture of a Panzershrek (ofenrohr) soldier wearing gas masks to avoid gas, in game the soldier is automatically equipped with the gas mask.

A picture of a flame thrower soldier, I don’t think in game the soldier has a gas mask.

Gas masks were used by German soldiers for multiple reasons, the two majors one :

  • Gas and smoke protection (obviously)
  • Wind breaker (motorcyclists or soldiers during winter on eastern front)

Gas weapons were never used during WWII because they were feared by both sides. Gas were more dangerous and effective than in WWI and using it would mean the others would use it too.
Soldiers and populations were ready to use gas masks.
Germany had a lot of “nerve gasses”, terrible chemical weapons. But did not use it because of the fear other coutries had it too. In fact, the other countries had not enough of these chemical weapons to harm Germany.

So, in Enlisted the introduction of gas masks as cosmetics would be welcomed. 200 gold each would prevent the massive use of them from players

I think it’s a great idea.
I want my Marines to wear gas masks.
It would look especially good on the flamethrowers.

And if you are going to create a new equipment slot for Facemasks, I would like to see balaclavas and various facemasks as well.

It might be hard to make them without clipping with the helmets, though.
I think it would be nice to add face patterns with masks to the existing Head cosmetic items. It would change the whole face, but since you can’t see under the mask anyway, it wouldn’t bother me.

Nah, thanks… I really don’t think we need edgelord teen fashion in Enlisted. I like the idea only guy with Ofenrohr is wearing it. It makes sense and it makes this guy unique.

This is material for premium/event squads outfits more than anything else.

I disagree with you here, I don’t even know what is edgelord teen fashion but like show above : Gas masks were used by Soldiers during WWII. Facemasks slot would be a great cosmetics addition.
The cost of those equippments could be high to prevent a majority of players to use it. 200 golds the piece is expensive.

But gasmask are already a thing in Enlisted in reasonable way.

There’s literally no reason why should every soldier be able to use them to. It would completely kill of the main point behind ofenrohr.
Just because some edgelords thinks gasmaks looks cool and blah blah blah.

But are there Enlisted players who are not edge-loaded?
Christmas is coming. Right about now the “normal” people are trying to make time to spend with their families and loved ones.
We are trying to spend that time playing wargames and socializing with other nerds in this psych ward-like forum.
So,There is no doubt that everyone in this cyberspace is a lame geek, arguing about who is an edgelord and who is not is pointless.
Embrace the edgeload.

And there’s no reason why we should not be able to have face equippments (gas masks, sniper cover etc…) And to you the main point behind ofenrohr is to have a gasmask, strange…
You compare us to edgelord to undermine our opinion but you litterally have “pee” in you name

To be fair, Edgelord fashion and WW2 fashion are often one and the same.

I mean… SS stuff, Waffen-ss stuff, heavy trench coats and the like. Logically speaking gas masks as proven above were used in a number of ways, flametroopers were often with gas masks due to the protection they offered. Most flamethower units wore gloves and the like as well if memory serves, For a reason why: Turn on your oven top if you have one and place a non-gloved hand on it.

then get a thick glove and try this.

FOR RECORD: DO NOT DO THIS. THAT WAS A JOKE.

maybe if it was ww1 setting game with constant threat of gas attacks and gas mask would have real functionality like in BF1 or other ww1 games, sure. but its not, so no, keep it for ofenrohr or maybe some flametroopers. motorcycle goggles and simple face covers where it fits like tunisia? sure, why not

In game we can equip soldiers with helmet, tops, bottom and sometimes gloves.
On some tops there are different pouches or bags. Some of them are bags for gas masks…
So they are ready to be equipped by soldiers. I want them to be cosmetics on the face.
We’re not here to discuss the fact that there were no gas weapons, we’re here to discuss how many gas masks were on the battlefield. They were enough gas masks as mentionned above to be able to have some as cosmetics. Riflemen, MG gunners, flamethrowers, motorcyclists, whatever classes…
That’s it, for 200 or a bit more golds we should be able to equip a gas mask.

well i am against gas masks inside the game. if anyone here ever wore military gas mask they would know that soldiers would never equip them unless they were in immediate danger of gas. they restrict breathing, make you sweat, limit your FOV and they can fog up making them rather impracticable to wear when there is no danger.

Agreed, maybe may gas mask an equippable item, like using the canteen. Maybe this helps reduce phosphate damage? Idk, there’s not a lot of chemical warfare in enlisted for gasmasks to make sense.

I made something covering this type of topic but it wasn’t for gas mask but I do think having some sort of face covering in the game would be a good thing especially for low end computers.

Can we have some sort of face covering For all factions - Suggestions - Enlisted
