Already on September 8, 1939, while repelling an attack by German rangers, a Polish battery fired chemical mines at the enemy. The Wehrmacht suffered 15 casualties. The Germans also did not hesitate to use poisonous substances. Asphyxiating gas was used in battles with encircled Soviet troops near Odessa, Sevastopol and Kerch. In the Adzhimushkay catacombs alone, the fascists poisoned three thousand people with it.
