Game is completely unclear on some things

All I want to know is how to get more granades on my SMG dude, however the game is absolutely unlcear about which perks / unlocks I need for this.

In fact, most of this game is pretty vague with most things, is it known that there is a complete lack of tooltips with crucial informatie like what is required to be able to use it ?

You need to upgrade a soldier class with the backpack slot (in the red upgrades menu), in order to be able to equip EITHER ammo pouches, grenade pouches or backpack (for medikit).

Small grenade pouches allow you to carry 2 grenades in total, large grenade pouches up to 3.

Small ammo pouches give you 1 extra magazine, large ones double your ammo reserve.

Small backpack = 2 medikit slots, large backpack = 4 slots.

Thank you for explaining! The shop is so unclear which perks I need and mentions nothing about how many granades I will get that this has been most useful information indeed.

To get extra grenades on your assaulter class you need to level up the assault squad after you unlock it.

When you have that unlocked it means that you can equip a backpack slot for all the assaulters that belong to that upgrade tree.

So each type of soldier has its own upgrade tree. Trooper 1, trooper 2, assaulter 1, assaulter 2, fighter pilot 1 and so on. So if you use the assaulter 1 and have it unlocked they can use the backpack. If you want it on anything else that means you have to level that specific squad as well. So later down the line if you want the backpack slot on the assaulter 2 when you unlock it you have to level that squad to be able to equip it.

Would advise not to buy the small ammo pouches btw, they are not really worth it (only 10% ammo) compared to the grenade pouch or small backpacks. Larger ammo pouches are great though (100% more ammo)

Level perks upgrade the individual soldier that you used. If you click on the button in the blue box you can see every perk that this soldier can technically gain. In the red box you see 3 different types of points. These are the ammount of points you can spend on different types of perks. These points are slightly different for each class.

Hope that makes it a bit clearer. I agree with you that it is not always straight forward how it works and there is little to no explaination for it.

If you want to know anything else just ask away.

Oh and this box (blue) is quite handy as well.

Most any computer game nowadays has no manual or if it does its quite pathetic instead they have online forums which causes many of the same questions asked by various people then answered again and again they expect their customers to search the forums to instead of providing a manual that answers a lot of basic questions … if they had a manual it would have to be updated periodically as the game gets upgrades but still they should have a manual and update it. They could probably accomplish this by giving 5 people a free premium account for two years if those 5 people would make and continually update an online manual in doing this it would solve the problem and they would not have to think about or organize a manual but things like this seldom happen ever.

Well at this point some very simpel tooltips like, “This pounch added on backpack slot will allow you to carry 1 more nade” on hoverover in shop would very quickly solve my issue.

And the issue i’m having now is, while I can reasonably assert what some class types do, not all. A quick description of what is special about them would be nice.

Like assault > Carries SMG’s.
Radio operator > Can call artil.
Bomber (not unlocked yet so guessing from campaign view) > Allow to carry anti-tank rifles / rocket launches ?

The main reason i’m not completely confused and seem to be slowly getting a hang of it despite a total lack of information is because i’ve played games like HnG, Planetside 2 etc etc for a few thousand hours in total and that i’ve learned that despite every community have toxic trolls, if you just ask nicely you can usually get your answers on forums.

O yes I had an other question again regarded Flametroopers and other troops of similiar kind that already have a secondary weapon, what happens if I pick the secondary weapon perk with them ? Do I get to add an other main weapon ?

Also, if I pick the second main weapon perk, would this allow my rifle guys in my granadiersquads to use MG’s ? Or will the main weapon selection remain as it is ?

Yes, a 2nd main weapon slot opens up. The type of weapons you can bring does not change though. So a sniper can bring a 2nd sniper rifle, assaulter a 2nd smg etc.

The way ammo works is that when you bring 2 same ammo type weapons the 2nd weapon just adds 1 more clip.
If you bring 2 different ammo type weapons, for example a bolt action and a semi auto, you get full regular ammo on both.

And another question, I can’t seem to find sidearms in the logistics, are they not in game yet ?

They arrive randomly when you use a bronze ordetr to buy random weapon selection. As do axes for the melee weapon slot.

Sidearms are relatively rare drops, axes even more so.

Is there any way to order the bots to man PaK or Flak guns ?

No - you can order them to help you build them, or help you dismantle them or do it on their own - that is all.

Specialized units have limited options in their upgrade trees.
Radiomen CAN’T unlock backpack because they have that slot permanently assigned to the radio.
Bombers can only unlock backpack slot instead, since their secondary slot is dedicated to antitank weapons only.
Flametroopers can’t unlock secondary weapons nor backpack, because they have those slots dedicated to flamethrowers and gas tank respectively.
Same for mortarmen, who can only equip a mortar besides the main weapon. No backpack slot at all, supposedly mortar shells are carried there.

All these questions are killing me there should be a basic manual - they give a lot of info when there is an update seems it would be easy to provide some basic game info … ???

I had to look for a lot of stuff myself when I started, in this forum and video tutorials. The game doesn’t explain shit about soldier upgrades.

Very true.

Example Personal upgrade Backpack Slot “unlocks backpack slot for soldier of”

Quite short text and no explanation what it used for could be easily added more text like …where you can use backpack, ammo pouches or grenade pouches of any size one at time.

Better tool tips here and there would make it easier for all.

Hello, my main squad im using on Normandy is the infantry class with 9 soldiers. I have a radio man, an AT man and a machingunner.
I have the back packs unlocked for the rifle men in the squad, but im trying to figure out how to get the others back packs. If I unlock the back packs for machine gunner 1, AT 1, etc. will I be able to equip these men with back packs in the infantry squad? Does it work the same for all other squad perks?

Yes. Soldiers upgrades are tied to class and tier.

That means that once you unlock backpack slot on, say, rifleman 1, you will be able to give a backpack to all your riflemen 1, regardless of the squads they are in.

In example, when you unlock rifleman 2 squad, you can fill it with riflemen 1 and level up that squad taking advantage of full slots, until you unlock backpacks for riflemen 2 as well.

Same goes for every soldier class. They must be upgraded with their own squad, but otherwise they can be used anywhere.
