Freelook in planes on ps5 - toggle option

I understand that console maybe doesn’t have enough keys or ergonomics may mean that when using freelook in planes it also affects the airlerons and you end up rolling, on some planes you can get used to this, but if I could press a button to actually maintain same flight path and look around my plane, it would help spotting enemy.

Currently I use Screen Joystick mode all rudder, airlerons and flaps configured, I either roll left to freelook right behind and that is purely to compensate, or I use the cockpit roof to do a lot of my spotting, when it comes to turn fighting, I feel at slight disadvantage to PC, only slight as am not a bad flyer to be fair, might be one of the German aces in Moscow :wink:

So TLDR, give us a key map option, to toggle freelook not affecting the plane. To be honest the way freelook and plane elevators work work very well, it is just on occasion I would like to look about without banking, rolling or climbing…

Yes it’s very frustrating for console.

The “combo” hotkeys like LB + left stick don’t override the default function of the stick. I mean is t that the purpose of a hotkey combo? To override the default feature of the single key?

After much experimentation here’s my set up.

First go to Options/Game/Plane Control Mode and try out “Screen Joystick” mode.

Next go to Controls/Plane/View.

  • Left Stick = “View”/free look and only free look for Planes. To set the view to Left Stick go to Controls/Plane/View. Click on the empty box via A button, then set the “axis” to Left stick and hit Okay.

Next go to Controls/Plane/Switch look direction.

-Now it’s very important to set pushing in on Right stick to “Switch Look Direction”! This will automatically reset the view to default(gun site view) when you free look! It will also quickly set look to right wing then left wing then back to default if view is already at default.

Addition bindings. Controls/Plane/

  • :arrow_up::arrow_down:Dpad = Throttle
  • :arrow_left::arrow_right:Dpad = Rudder
  • Y = Flaps Up
  • B = Flaps Down
  • LB = Drop Bomb
  • RB = Shoot Rockets
  • :arrow_left: Right Stick :arrow_right: Ailerons
  • :arrow_up: Right Stick :arrow_down: Elevator
  • Gear(up/down) Left trigger + :arrow_right: Dpad

This takes some getting used to but after time spent on practice range in cockpit alas you have free look! Though you may have to invert the Y axis in your “View” setting.

Will try it out thanks, not sure I understand your freelook reset direction though. mine is Left Dpad and right stick, my runner is on left stick and throttle too…

Nah don’t get your controls, would need clearer instructions and guide as to what I will see.

Or Devs just give me a toggle freelook without moving plane.
