Forget the roadmap, follow this instead! (Campaign suggestions)

I would like to suggest these campaigns/maps for the future updates. I think this way we can balance historical ‘realism’ and matchmaking

Please allow me to briefly explain

Changes

  • I would like to suggest that Stalingrad/Rhzev should be played up to BR3 only since they occurred early in the war and it’s quite awkward to see late war vehicles (Tiger IIs and IS-2s) and weapons in Stalingrad
  • BR3 should have their own battles. BR1s and 2s couldn’t stand a chance against BR3 vehicles–I mean cmon a stabilized Sherman against Panzer IIIs. And did I mention the grenade launchers? On the other hand, BR3 equipment and vehicles struggle against BR4/5 monsters like the Pershing, Tiger IIs, IS-2s
  • Why start in 1941? Because that’s the year US entered the war.
  • So many campaigns! How about the uniforms? I suggest to simplify the uniforms by categorizing them to summer, tropical (for US and UK), desert, and winter.

Campaigns

:pushpin: 2nd Battle of El Alamein

  • Most pivotal battle for the Allies against Germany in North Africa. The open fields will make exciting tank battles.

:pushpin: Battle of Kasserine Pass

  • Extension of the Tunisian campaign map. Hilly terrains will make it difficult for tanks without infantry support.

:pushpin: Guadalcanal campaign

  • Rename Pacific War to Guadalcanal campaign since most of the maps occurred in Guadalcanal.

:pushpin: Burma campaign

  • Separate the Burma campaign from ‘Pacific War’ and expand the map. Burma campaigns will provide an urban map for close quarters fighting in BR1-3.

:pushpin: Battle of Bataan

  • This battle marks the end of US control in the Pacific and the expansion of Japan. Interesting sites include Corregidor island and Mt. Bataan. This will also open an opportunity for a Filipino guerilla event or premium squad.

:pushpin: Kokoda Track Campaign

  • The map could be similar to the Battle of the Bulge but with very thick jungle foliage. This will make using tanks and planes very difficult forcing players to fight decisively.

:pushpin: Allied Invasion of Italy

  • Ah yes, the soft underbelly of Europe. Maps will be like Tunisia but in BR4/5. Sicily, Monte Cassino, and Anzio will make interesting locations.

:pushpin: Battle of Manila

  • “Dad, can we get Battle of Stalingrad but in Asia?” “Say no more champ.”
  • Dubbed as the Stalingrad of Asia, Japanese SMGs will definitely shine in close quarters combat in this map. If you look at historical photos, the map of Battle of Manila looks like Battle of Berlin map in the game. (you got :white_check_mark: an important bridge, :white_check_mark: a wide river, :white_check_mark: large buildings, :white_check_mark: dense urban landscape)

:pushpin: Battle of Iwo Jima

  • cave battles

:pushpin: Battle of Okinawa

  • Japanese ‘Volksstrum-like’ premium guerilla squad. watchuthink?

:pushpin: Siege of Sevastopol

  • Stalingrad 2.0

:pushpin: Soviet-Japanese Neutrality Pact

  • No battles for Soviet vs Japanese in BR1-3 because of this pact.

:pushpin: Battle of Narva

  • Winter/Spring map for Soviets vs Germany

:pushpin: Vistula-Oder Offensive

  • Poland map with Polish event squad

:pushpin: Soviet Invasion of Manchuria

  • URRAAAAAAAAAAAA

So what you think?

people absolutely need to give up the notion of historical accuracy, its not in the game and it will never be in the game

even if you remove stalingrad from high BRs, you’re still going to see volkssturm guns and late war mosins in it, literally nothing would be accomplished except reducing the map variety

I dont really know about BR map changes. If there are enough maps then I guess. But until now there are not. To much maps have to be added, its wishfull thinking. I do like some of the suggestions. Maybe add Xinin Gol for early wat Soviet VS Japs.

For early war US VS Germgerms, I would be disappointed with North Africa again. They could add so much cool stuf like battles in Norway, France or Greece. We have not seen those yet. Maybe do those instead of another Tunesia.

Soviets, their kind of though because the battlefield are either ‘field’, ‘city’ or ‘forrest’.
Maybe some change of scenery with Crimea and Sevastapol would bd great. But I was also thinking Pripyat (or however their called) marches in Belarus? That would be something a bit different. Caucasus maybe.

I think the issue there with the lack of none NA battlefields with the western allies vs germany is that a lot of it was in NA, however the likes of sicially and italy are 100% on the table and would work at all BR’s.

I think we would be better off seeing more generic map arrangements that could be generally called to be in multiple places depending on the BR. Take Italy as I said above there, a lot of Italian countryside or even urban areas look relatively similar to Greece, or Crete, or even costal yugoslavia at a stretch. With a few exceptions such as Monte Casino and etc, most of the potential map ideas there could be called different things depending on the BR however the map remains the same. If DF really wanted to get creative, instead of making purely linear maps, they could map more omni directional maps so each map can pick separate directions of attack or defence.

To give some more example there of more “generic” maps that could double up for different campaigns.

  • Burmese Jungles could double for New Guinea or Solomon Island maps(Inland ofc)

  • Italian everything could work for most Mediterranean climates.

  • French countryside’s can double for most countryside’s in Western Europe.

  • Sorry but 99% of Eastern European villages are near identical from Romania to Narva.

  • While a stretch for sure, the more open plains of Russia could double up for a Manchuria campaign.

  • Dense urban German cities work for most of Germany and would fit on both Eastern and Western Fronts.

  • etc, etc

Im sure you get my point there.

And if you want even more variation, just winterise some of the maps, like Narva could have both winter and summer editions. As for making the maps, perhaps DF could run a map making contest, make like a 10-20k gold reward for the winners and their name credited if the map got added to the game.

I for one would love far more map variation, or at least as mentioned above, work on allowing the maps to be slightly more omni directional.
