I can put an American decal on my British plane, probably because it’s in an American squad.

Sorry but no, I can not put the same American decal on my Spitfire.
Also I can not put a German decal on my Italian Fiat G55.
Perhaps my problem is only with event decals (I have edited the title accordingly).
But my guess is, British plane in American squad can have American decal.

You’re right. It’s just a consequence of the British aircraft being assigned to the American squad.
It was a bad and unwise decision that was addressed by the forum community as soon as the event was announced.
