Ok sure flamethrower when it comes to open combat isn’t the most useful of the weapons but… in my opinion flametroopers shouldn’t carry a weapon like a rifle when they already have the flamethrower. I think that they should have access to a light sidearm such as a pistol and not a weapon that makes them heavier and, consequently, slower. Being slow for a flametrooper is a huge burden since they have to change objective often and try not to get hit by enemies when moving.
After using flamethrowers several times - or at least after trying to do so: this class is just so fucking useless its disgusting. The range - 20 meters - is a joke and the fact that the flames dont go around corners makes it useless in bunkers as well. In the meantime, you rather kill yourself using flamethrowers instead of killing any1, since everybody can just shoot in your direction (e.g.). Considering the fact that US flamethrowers had a range between 20-40 meters (not just 20) is laughable as well
In my opinion the only problem that flamethrowers have now is that burning soldier can still shoot.
Other than that they are quite good.
Useless class. I play with rifles only and remove the flamethrower completely. I am running rest of the squad with Assaulters, Eng, Radios and bunch of troopers.
The flamethrowers are very situational.
Sure I’ve taken capture points and killed 9 - 10 people with it, but I’ve also killed as many with the rifle.
The fact it was buffed to 20m range means it is much more useful now than it was, but it’s far from perfect.
Trouble is, it could quickly become overpowered if its buffed any further.
The american Flamethrower used in the game is the M1, not the M2, which was the worst flamethrower of WW2. It range was actually only 18 meters. With tailwind and downhill. In fact the range was even decreased when the system was adapted for the use of Napalm down to only 15 meters.
However, yes, flamethrowers still need buffs and I think the best way would be by making them more realistic. The flames should develop thick black smoke covering the line of sight and - more importantly - make the flames last longer to create barriers (at least for 30secs). Maybe depending on how long you shot a specific point.
Edit: and ofc, make the jet behave more like a liquid so one can shoot around/above objects.
And maybe, burning soldiers should not be able to shake off Napalm Taylor Swift style.
