Splash damage currently behaves very erratically and unpredictably. Sometimes whole squads of troops survive grenades and shells exploding at their feet, other times they get wiped out by a random explosion half a map length away.
Rifle grenades, tank shells including the largest ones, HE rounds from automatic cannons (such as from planes) - All of these have very unpredictable or low damage. I want them to at least kill people who are right next to the explosion.
On the other hand, certain rocket planes seem to use the old splash model, meaning cover does not protect from them, and the AOE is gargantuan, covering a whole section of the play area. They need fixed. They regularly kill me from halfway across the map, through multiple walls, while not even trying to hit me.
Impact grenades are also extremely powerful, easy, and viable, but we have other threads on that.
This is a serious problem - because of this, tanks with long reload times are not viable in this game - IS 2. Impact grenades are effective not because they do huge damage, but because you can spam them non-stop.
People survive a 250 or even 500 kg bomb just by hiding in a shelter nearby, but a person 50 meters away dies from shrapnel because he’s standing higher up - the damage is cone, which is partly wrong and people nearby should die. Some tanks survive, simply because the bomb exploded above them, that is, the damage went cone upwards. As silly as it may look, the damage spreads out like this:
The cone idea was created as a response to explosives being too powerful - Whole map used to be explosions. Nobody could capture the points when it was like that - All explosives (tank shells, artillery, etc) used to have a flatter angle on their explosion, and it was horrible.
A solution could be restoring the flat angle on the cone, but making the AOE smaller. I also want the rockets to still stop penetrating walls.
