it’s a transliteration found in some eastern european countries that use the latin alphabet, of course it’s not because of offensive spelling. seems it’s common in lithuania for instance, and i would guess it’s found in latvia.

I think a lot of the names are awfully generic and computer generated. Even British/American names are sometimes a ChatGPT job that no one in real life would be called that. Likewise Germany.
I like the idea of having different nationalities in naming for USSR. Ive previously suggested having some British squads with soldiers with Polish or Czech names to represent Free Polish/Free Czech soldiers who fought with the British-Commonwealth armies.
Sometimes I wonder whether someone should just look up names of soldiers who actually died in WWII for the various countries, mix up the names so its ‘fictional’ and use that.
For my own squads I researched Australian Second World War winners of the Victoria Cross (our highest military medal), and used all those real names (funnily enough there was the exact number for my 3 British-Commonwealth squads). I didnt use the names of VC winners from the RAN or RAAF although I wouldve if Id had an aircraft squad or some sort of naval unit (eg if they added PT boats to the Pacific)
Some guy like a month ago or so just showed the picture of quite questionable and sometimes funny names here and there lmfao

And so I generally took into account all kinds of forced refugees due to the war (World War I, civil wars and other civil problems, World War II, etc., in general, because of the reasons why the US population grew so much).
I think even in the English form they left some national peculiarities.
Remember, you can simply change the names of any one of your soldiers with a Name Change Order.

firstly: didn’t you read what you just quoted? is france or britain in eastern europe? in wiki the slovenian and slovak pages for the sniper are zajcev. but anyway you can find people with that surname spelling in belarus, balkans, baltic countries etc.
secondly: also you are linking the real person who was russian, meanwhile ingame we don’t know from where in the ussr the soldier we get is from originally. although i found even russians who transliterate zajcev, mb when they moved to another country idk.
edit: zaitsev is the common modern transliteration of that surname in english, but there were some zajcev in the ussr.
