First Impressions of Enlisted so far

There are a few issues I have with the game at the moment, a lot of it is primarily just presentation of the UI for the menu and the HUD within the game.

For the UI, at first glance, the game just throws basically everything at you. You have no idea where to even begin. You definitely can get used to it after a while, but first impressions are a big thing in my opinion, and I think there’s room for improvement. I think alot of my own confusion stemmed from trying to discern squads and individual soldiers within those squads. Another issue is the purchase of individual soldiers for squads and weapons, they feel a bit blended together.

For the HUD, the teammate icons that appear above their hands shows up way too late to be useful. I cannot count how many times I’ve shot my teammates thinking they were enemies, and marking is worse, because it’s always indicated by a red arrow meaning it looks like I marked an enemy when in reality, it just marks the location I marked. This creates a new problem of misinformation where I think I marked an enemy but didn’t actually.

Here’s some other concerns I had, or confusions.

  • The spawning is weird. I can die once, and then suddenly I have to wait 8 seconds to get into the match, but I have four squads available that I didn’t even use, so what am I doing? How does it work? The game, AFAIK, doesn’t explain how the squads system works. I know that I can choose a squad and then fight them but when I die or “wipe” I have to wait to use other squads, where other times I can use what I have immediately.

  • If my squads are all Mosin users by default, why aren’t they given a Sidearm as a backup. They’re mid-long range guns, I have no short-ranged backup. Moreover, why do I have to unlock a Sidearm slot, and THEN the Sidearm itself? Isn’t that a bit much?

  • The character controls kind of clunky, and is most apparent when moving side to side. It’s not too responsive, it feels almost like a hindrance to do so, where I can just turn and get a better result.

I think the game has promise, but is rough around the edges.

The sidearm issue is an easy one - because most soldiers do not carry a sidearm. They are relatively expensive to produce, relatively useless in combat, and so the only people you would bother giving them to are those for whom carrying a large sidearm would be a needless or excessive encumbrance.

Once unlocked, you can buy sidearms for your riflemen, but you’ll have to play for them as if you were buying a main weapon. You’ll also need to unlock the sidearm perk for the platoon in the red upgrades section. I’ve only really used them at my snipers

Regarding the third point, they specifically limited lateral speed or acceleration or something to prevent players becoming effectively invincible when they zig-zag.

Was it really that much of an issue? It feels really clunky more than anything.
