It would be nice to see mortars get an upgrade maybe a new shell type or a slight upgrade like any ai mortar troops in the squad will join in when you fire your mortar.
This could make mortars feel much more like a barrage than a clunky mess. Maybe the heavy 8cm mortars should have a small set up time to make them less of an upgrade and more of a different play style
There are at least 3 different “classes” of mortars/explosive launchers in game:
largely seems a matter of shell weight;
Note: ( diameter(mm), shell weight(kg.) )
CURRENTLY IN GAME
- ‘Light’ Infantry Mortar:
– Type 89 (50mm 0.789~0.9 kg?),
– RM-38 (50mm, 0.85kg),
– 5cm Granatwerfer 36 (50mm 0.9kg), 2 Inch Mortar(53mm, ~0.962kg), - ‘Medium’ Infantry Mortar:
– M2 60mm (60mm, 1.4 kg) - ‘Heavy Infantry Mortar’:
– Kz 8 cm GrW 42 (81mm, 3.5kg),
– BM-41 (81mm, 3.05kg)…
SUGGEST TO LOOK INTO ADDING:
JAPAN

Perhaps not necessary…

OR:
Ordnance ML 3-inch mortar
There’s also obviously (severa) French mortars, as well as (probably) some mortars from at least somewhere in the “greater allies” (Latin America)
European Axis (Germany/Italy/etc.)
Note: that the magazine is for the “propellant” charges, IE: basically full of blanks; the actaual explosive shells are still laoaded one at a time through a lever action breach mechanism (at least as far as I’ve read, the film above is probably just edited weird…
Not Listed here were French Mortars (there are several varieties), and mortars that I couldn’t find easily browsing the anglophone internet. I’d request users who are fluent in Hungarian, Romanian, German, Japanese, and Russian might help by finding mortars of some specific classes:
- Light Mortars (~50mm diameter, with a Shell Weight between 0.7kg and 1kg.
- Medium Mortars: idk, the 1.4kg shell of the M2 60mm seems quite anomalous, need more info/type discussion.
- Heavy Mortars: this seems fairly cut and dry, roughly 81mm in diameter, with shells that are around 3kg-3.5kg.
In the photo you have a 120mm regimental mortar PM-38
