Fighter Support Concept

I am hopeful that the adjustments to the bombing runs will make them less frustrating to deal with on all campaigns. But I think there are some other interesting ways to allow the player to deal with bombing runs. One idea I have is to allow radiomen to also call in ai fighter planes to help deal with incoming bombing runs. I don’t think these fighters should necessarily completely destroy an incoming bombing run, but at least inflict some serious damage.

This could also help increase the frequency of currently somewhat rare air battles. Players could be incentivized to spawn in their planes to either defend their bombing run or help their fighters fully destroy the incoming bombers. This could create some really cool air battles that could be exciting to witness even from the ground.

I have no idea how hard this would be to implement, let alone balance. So idk how possible this is to do in any iteration. I also put this idea on reddit some time ago but forgot to post it here.

I think it would give fighter planes more reason to attack bombing runs. I just tried to take out a couple of bombing runs by myself and I could only take down one plane and that was after the bombing run dropped their payload…

This is my biggest issue with them right now, you can spawn into a plane immediately after hearing the bomber alert in order to deal with them, yet by the time you take off, catch up to them and start firing, they are already dropping their loads on top…

Compound the fact they are still very tough to take down and it just isn’t worth trying to do tbh.

More targets to engage in the air for pilots, so, I am for it.
The issue begins with divided attention, however - are pilots supposed to support their comrades on the ground, or have their own self-contained battle in the air?
