So I thought it would be an idea to be able to unlock female soldier profile pics for the game. like, for instance, a special in-game profile pic could be a famous female soviet soldier.

I like the idea. Maybe making it a reward for the International Women’s Day event - if DF can think of a little event like that.
But first, DF needs to find a better artist, or at least get the dude making the avatars now to take an art tutorial or something. Because apart from those historical generals from War Thunder, the quality of the other avatars is still a long way from satisfactory.

That’s untrue. Everybody agree that the arts from event are very cool.
The only “problem” (because it’s not much of a problem to be honnest) is some portrait are face screenshot while other are drawn portrait.
And right now some of the face screenshot are disapointing. Like the eyebrows-less japanese from the Pacific campaign.
There are obvious problems with the perspective of some drawn portraits, such as this one，The rifle in the soldier’s hand is abnormally short
I think the game loading page illustration production level is very good, I hope to get that quality of the avatar
As long as it doesn’t do what so many other games did and do a bunch of anime-style women for portraits. Realistic portraits I would have no issue with.
Having studied illustration, I can say the avatars are…hm…mediocre.
What I don’t like is that they are in no consistent style - obviously different artist have been working on it.
The guideline that should be followed here is: Make it look like it matches the historical illustration style of the 30’s 40’s. Or accurate realistic.
Let’s use this picture of Roza Shanina as a possible option for a profile pic and an example of what they could try to get closer toward. what they could do is use the real photos of the actual figures re draw them but as close as possible. to the original pic.
