Yeah I agree. If you go that route only half a way it can backfire. At the same time, if you add all this in historical context and get some controversy, it would be only positive for the game at the end. Kingdom Come had a shit storm but it increased their sales multiple times as more people became aware of the game and many people do like historically plausible setting.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. I still remember what happened a couple years back in one of the WW2 flavoured interations of either BF or COD (they’re all the same to me now). Apparantly you could freely choose your sex and race for the multiplayer, regardless of the faction you play for. This resulted mostly in Anti-SJWs raging about the lack of historical accuracy (I would’ve even agreed with them, if we weren’t talking about accuracy in fucking bfcod). If there were any complaints about misoginy, those were completely drowned out by the shitstorm about historical accuracy.
My point is, I can’t imagine there would be a significant amount of criticism of the kind you are describing. Apart from some pearl-clutching smoothbrains, card-carrying feminists would either praise such a feature or complain, that it doesn’t go far enough and point out every single individual of a minority group, that ever took part in combat in WW2.
A separate unit would necessitate having similar units within other factions as well.
Plus, we already have a sniper unit, maybe the devs could add the chance of getting either a male or female sniper, radio operator, or pilot (The Nightwitches weren’t the only female pilots in the SU) for the Soviet faction.
Or maybe a premium squad, like someone suggested already.

Historically only the Soviets ever used females on an official army level in WWII while others were partisans or resistance forces. Some female soldiers even became Hero of the Soviet Union like Mariya Oktyabryskaya who was behind the Boevaya Podruga tank. It was not just snipers but also tankers, pilots, air defense, etc.

Only reasonable way to introduce female soldiers in my opinion is Twitch drops.
Noone denies that they were present and should be recognized. But the problem lays in their numbers - those were really small in comparision to the whole Red Army. By adding one female sniper to the future Twitch drops devs would not only recognize and respect women participating in war, but at the same time not cause another BFV like bs where there were so many women on the battlefield that it became absurd.
Premium squads could be too much. There could be hypothetical situation (most likely it would never happen, but it is better safe than sory) where everybody would bring their female sniper sqads in the same battle. And we would end up with Germans fighting whole army of women. With Twitch drops it would be max. 10 women on the battlefield at the same time. Pretty reasonable number.
at this point it should have been called waifu wars.
I agree to give them as a premium unit only for those who want them is for sure the most painless way
