One cool way to expand customization options for soldiers would be to add some versions of current helmets in the game with a face covering. For example, scarfs worn to protect against the cold and sand storms.
Example - Axis Tunisia
Axis - Moscow/Stalingrad
Allies - Moscow/Stalingrad
I would also love to see some face covering options for US soldiers in a hypothetical battle of the bulge update:

As long as it mostly remains within historical limits, I wholeheartedly support this.
After customizing one of my Japanese squads today, this would have been a nice thing to add too
