This may be a controversial statement, but that is how i think.
Fighter planes that have ground armament, have something else to do, rather than shooting planes.
So if i as a fighter plane have some ground armament, i can do something else while waiting for planes to spawn.
Now without ground armaments, i am useless. If there are no planes than its a waste of time and reinforcements.
So fighters must have some ground armaments. Maybe rockets, or light bombs.
Planes in tunisia are mostly useless. Except attackers. I mean i love the spitfire or hurricane but theres no reason to use them because planes dont appear, and you have no ground armament.
Yeah there’s not really much reason to ever use a fighter when the attackers come with the option to effect ground targets in a significant way, at least if they have rockets, and can still kill aircraft when they show up which are always other attackers
Agreed. Without any air to ground weapons, there really isn’t much point in spawning in a fighter. Unless the enemy is hardcore spamming attack planes, you often only actually have one plane to shoot down, and then you’re just dead weight until you spawn as something else. And even if you do consistently have targets, those attack planes almost certianly get off at least one pass each before they can be shot down, which means they actually are advancing the efforts of their ground team, while the fighter pilot is not. Thus, often times even if you are shooting bombers, it doesn’t mean a whole lot unless you are on the defense and actually costing the enemy tickets by doing that.
Having even limited attack capability, letting a fighter snipe tanks if nothing else, helps a lot in making them actually helpful.
That or greatly increase XP reward for killing planes, especially attackers. My idea is that you get +250 XP killing an attacker, but if you kill it before it gets any kills with its payload you get 250 XP for killing it and another 250 XP for thwarting the bombing/rocket strike.
Even if they just ripped the war thunder flight performance and gameplay it would allow way more diversity, fighter with armour piercing so you can kill planes and tanks, stuff actually loading in more than 200m away so you can line up and fire at it early, planes actually doing damage to other planes unlike now where it takes several hundred 20mms

although in terms of shooting down attackers sometimes attackers themselves are a better option(for example in moscow IL2 outguns everything in its tree and is only matched by the bf110)
