I know fragments still exist outside this range. But looking at the MK82 chart, it already shows a 0 lethality rate, meaning it’s statistically negligible, and you’d have to be extremely unlucky to be hit. However, in this game, a 500-pound bomb often kills many people at incredible distances, so why not limit the fragment range to 30 to 60 meters as shown in the chart? The MK82 bomb is still a primary bomb used by the U.S. military today, perhaps not 40 years but 80 years later.Because it is still in production today.

I did a simple distance measurement in the game. In the MK82 chart, the lethality rate reaches 0 at about 60 meters, and this isn’t even the older M64 bomb. Yet, I’ve been killed more than once at much greater distances, losing half a squad. Everyone can recall if they’ve encountered similar situations in the game.

So what? You acting like that’s some kind of problem. Nothing in this game require any form of skill.

why does RED chart exist then? why have 0.1 chance of incapacitation at 450m and 10% at 250m? i guess it is totally BS and army doesnt use it? or does army uses obsolete charts from 80+ years ago based on penetration of 1/4" of steel.

also i dont find simulation of some modeling software of non descript bomb to be credible source. hazardous fragment distances for given net explosive quantity are as credible source as that modeling software.

also most of the fragments will end up in 50% of the max range and that is mostly lethal range(if bomb model works similarly as dispersion in enlisted and WT). to get killed by fragment while standing on 120m is like winning lottery and that is if you dont have any obstacle between you and bomb.

It’s already explained very clearly here. These fragments are not lethal. It’s equivalent to “on a prone male soldier in winter clothing being physically unable to respond to an assault for a 5-minute period after the attack.” Yes, it’s that mild. It’s roughly like taking a fall or being hit hard with a punch, unable to move for 5 minutes.

This is the true meaning of the RED zone. It’s just to prevent friendly forces from being kicked in the butt by these non-lethal fragments.

It’s not just the 1/4-inch mild steel chart; there’s also the MK82 lethality probability simulation, a computer simulation used for weapon development. We can also compare it with the lethal zone of the M64 bomb from 80 years ago. So much data points to the same range; this is no coincidence.

The distance may not be that extreme, but it’s not uncommon to have an entire squad wiped out beyond 60 meters.

HFD shows distances where fragmentation will be 1 fragment on 56m2. on that distance even if it hits it will not be lethal. that number represents 1% hit chance. also non lethal doesnt mean non incapacitating. you can take out soldiers permanently out of fight without killing them.

lol mild. i think you have never been punched when you can say that… i would be really concerned if someone threw punch that incapacitated someone for 5+ minutes. other person will come out of that with some kind of lifelong disability if he actually wakes up.

that is why recommended evacuation distance for 500lbs explosive is 450+m when outdoors?

give me screenshots or video when it is not uncommon. usually i need to park bomb on top of the 2 squads to get 10+ kills with bomb.

Just out of curiosity, which ordnance has fist shaped shrapnells?
I can quite confidentally say majority of time those shrapnells are sharp & irregular shaped.
They aint some fluffy cotton balls.

Brother, I think we can end this topic. The MK82 chart clearly shows that the fatality rate drops to 0 beyond 60 meters! At greater distances, these fragments either lack the kinetic energy to kill, or the statistically few fragments that could kill are negligible. These non-lethal fragments don’t necessarily cause the disabilities you mentioned; the standard clearly states that it’s about not being able to react within 5 minutes, which doesn’t mean permanent disability. Perhaps even tripping could have a similar effect, and in this game, characters can still jump around after taking a .45 or 9mm hit. As for the distance of 500 meters, brother, when there’s a hurricane near my house, I also stay far away from the windows; theoretically, we need to evacuate, but how does that relate to our discussion on bomb lethality? It’s completely off-topic.

Based on my personal experience of falling off a bicycle, it’s possible that a fall could result in being unable to move for 10 minutes as well.

It’s already over. This chart explains everything. At greater distances, it is a non-lethal zone, and the kinetic energy of the fragments has decayed to the point where it is insufficient to be fatal. The mortality rate is already 0.

The MK82 bomb has an explosive weight of approximately 87 kg explosives. This is a chart comparing This is an IED composed of a 155 mm shell and 100 kg of explosives,… It clearly indicates the potential damage that could occur at different distances. The area where fragments can cause death extends up to 30 meters, while non-lethal fragments can travel up to 548 meters.

It also similarly indicates that the distance at which death can occur ends here.

so HFD represents distance from where you will either get low chance for getting hit by hazardous fragment or that hazardous fragment will have kinetic energy less than 78J. notice that even if you get hit by fragment between 15-78J you can get serious injury. for 500lb bomb that means ~300m is danger zone for getting hit with hazardous fragments.

btw that statistically negligible is 1%. do you know what are the chances of getting hit by fragment in game on 120m?

I am not convinced that the fragmentation caused by an IED would be the same as those by a bomb.
An IED without much packaging cant form larger fragments which would retain way more energy than smaller one unlike a bomb with a thick metal shell.
When a bomb explodes it can easierly form fragmentent the size of your fist which can absorb a lot more kinetic energy from the explosion and thus travel futher and do lots of damage still.

On PC, maybe. But you can easily ignore them. And just kill your soldier once you are out of soldiers with SMG.
