Enlisted AI: after 3 years

Enlisted AI is still incredibly bad and it’s really hard to spot any difference between how they behave now and how they did in 2020. Here are the biggest problems I encountered after playing since alpha:

Getting into your way when building with engineer

Devs said they fixed this but it still happens to me. This is very frustrating especially when I’m in rush and I want to build a rally point quickly.

Very unpredictable movement

A serious issue right here. AI in enlisted is moving very…weirdly.
You’ll see them going around left and right, jumping over things for no reason, being unable to use ladders so when someone builds a rally point in the attic they just stay there and group up with other AI making a huge bot orgy and I have to manually switch them to get them all down.
They always fall out of windows when they try to shoot an enemy from a building,
They always run into me and block my aim so I can die in the stupidest way possible.

Headless behaviour

But the biggest most annoying issue regarding their movement is how they stop moving after someone starts shooting at them. When I see an enemy squad running towards cover I just have to shoot once for them all to stop moving so I can kill them more easily. AI works very simply meaning that they will always stop and shoot back when being in danger which has a lot of problems by itself and this mechanic can be manipulated very easily.

Bad/good aim

Ai in this game has very weird aim. At long range they can’t hit anything but when you approach them they immediately do a 360 no scope and kill me instantly. There’s been a million cases where I will just enter a building with an SMG and AI immediately turns around and head-shoots me with a bolt action rifle before I could even have a chance to look at him
This is a very annoying issue. It has been present in the game since CBT and 1 month ago it somehow got even worse

the AI in red orchestra does the same 360 as the one in enlisted and red orchestra 2 is almost 10 years old and indeed in network r orchestra didn’t even point to you I think it’s a problem of being an artificial intelligence I think the best thing would be to do something similar to the forza horizon drivatars, which try to imitate the style of play of a player

bullshit everyone knows every army in planet teaches soldiers to jump in and out of trenches constantly.

Once u shoot bots they instantly transform to flat platform proning.
If you have cover the trick is to shoot one by leaning go back to cover for 0.1second the bots are all standing again.
Rinse and repeat, this way you avoid 99% of time the ungodly instant rifle shots from bots
( Regardless theyr somewhat rare at “longer” ranges )

This happens rather often as well as getting slapped to face with buttstock of rifle even after you have shot 1-3 times with smg already.

Id say a year ? ago bots indoors were just fully retarded and couldnt hit shit.
Best part of them was that you could run in with knife and stab them all for some odd reason they didnt consider knife as threat or something.

TLDR a game where “bots” play such big part of the game the AI is unacceptable shit.

Indeed. Five years of development and two years after release and bots still 1) don’t fulfill any of their supposed purposes (no sense of scale from tight bunches of obvious dummies, etc.), 2) actively detract from the experience (complete ruination of any last semblences of immersion left).

The only thing they do is the only thing they ever did - provide worthless bodies for players to inhabit. Especially if you want to do some stinky cheese tactics with multiple explosives.

Common but can be worked around with proper squad position placement

Very common, should definitely be looked at.

Rare, I almost never see this but I also directly assign them to stand and fire by windows

uncommon, I have teammates get in my way more often tbh

My solution (TLDR: Make Passive mode actually mean passive): Slight change to Squad Behaviors and their UI indicators ( With pictures! 😲 ) - #4 by 9129910

Very common, but can be hit or miss. I will say though, I prefer the semi-aimbot soldiers compared to some time ago when you could play like a ninja and stab an entire squad to death with no issue.

Overall: AI definitely still need improvement, but still better than it used to be. They have provided decent options to micromanage your soldiers which helps solve the issues but it should be addressed directly by the devs instead of making players have to figure out workarounds for AI issues.

Just my 2 cents on AI, which I use extensively.

this made me laugh so hard
I forgot to mention their ultimate power: pancake soldier

Yes I forgot about that, I never used the ninja tactic because I just wanted to play with guns but it was hella annoying when enemies did that to me. After I finally shoot the ninja I’m always the last squadmate left, it was really dumb and annoying, good they removed it

interesting,

in my opnion of course AI have a lot to envolve, and it,s one of the main features that make,s enlisted the frist FPS of a new genere.

I see that the AI must have the proper Range depending on the class and Weapow. is a nice start to do whit your arguments.

so, a Rifleman in bolt action should most times beat a Assaulter at long range, and vice versa.

the same happens whit the players playing a Shotgun vs a Sniper rifle. be wise, the troops are whit us are also our weapows.

cheers.

I totally agree with the problems you listed, TRUE, but I’ll also add: It’s not easy to code a game with bots playing alongside you, but some things aren’t hard to fix, like when you build something with engineers and the bot runs and sits right there :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :slightly_smiling_face: , but right here with all the space you have and press X to move it.
Also, when you’re inside a house and you press X to place them and you’re upstairs, they go downstairs, shit… t :upside_down_face:.
Darkflow will fix some issues in the future, I’m sure.

My favorite thing the bots do, is if I’m in a building and I order them inside of the building, instead of climbing through the window I climbed through they just lemming train right into the front door, in the open and get mowed down. (I avoided this by climbing into the window). Or if I’m using the DP-29 and I’m holding down a firing lane, they’ll crawl right in front of me AS I AM FIRING AT SOMEONE. Which breaks my sight picture, causes me to quit firing and gets me killed.

Sometimes, I wish you could kill your own AI.

It’s irrelevant how difficult it is. They’ve decided on that route themselves and then they’ve insisted on staying on it despite the feedback. Despite their obvious inability to make it work.

Many things in life are difficult. Would you still be making excuses for the creator if his video cards (for example) mostly didn’t work?

That’s also a very annoying bug

But They dont suggest jump out of trenches under immense mg and tank fire to soldiers you know ?

At the beginning it was veeeery bad, but now when I fix them on a specific point they do the job, sometimes better than…don’t forget you command them, even if there’s no many options

Seriously what have they said that they fixed that is actually fixed??? AI is not screwed if you pay for battlepass - its the only thing that can explain how some squads are like 360 alert at when I try to flank and others stand there looking at me thinking ‘are you going to shoot me’?!?
