Mortars are hard to come by. nobody makes ammo boxes unless you have a man on your squad made for it. Make it a part of the level tree for engineers to build a fortified mortar pit that comes with 100 mortars. Only usable by one mortar-man. It could also be made to hold multiple mortar-men, everyone takes from the same pool of ammo.
NOTE: You could deconstruct it, the mortar pit would be left with the same amount of ammo that it had when last used and put into build-able inventory
I’m more in favor of Engineers being able to build Heavy Mortars. I don’t necessarily think a designated pit is necessary

No, this isn’t needed - you can get 2 engineers in a squad, with +40% each build materials the squad gets about 150 rounds or something around that IIRC
100 mortrs? Are you serious? Then whom will go into the point?
