Engineers - cutting down trees for resources

Simple idea that would enable engineers to gain additional resources by cutting down trees, requires the engi to be equipped with an axe.

For that I would prefer an engineer to dismantle destroyed tanks.

This is a creative idea thank you for posting.

I like it, but in combat not sure about the feasibility of playing lumberjack.

Personally I want to see mechanised engineers with a truck or halftrack.

It could tow AT and AA guns (AA guns would get wheels)

And acts as a mobile engi resupply point similar to ammo on motorcycles currently

truck could have say 2 or 3 reloads then youre out of resources completely

Some might argue its OP. My response would be:

  1. A truck is vulnerable as hell.
  2. Engineers have to return to wherever the vehicle is to resupply.
  3. The ability to resupply resources means engineers could be more useful and build more stuff, especially larger things like multiple AA guns which can be necessary.

Id also like to see this hypothetical squad gain the ability to build Bailey bridges (vehicles) and pontoon bridges (infantry)

It was a feature on the test server

Instead of trees, I’d just go for the act of salvaging supplies from existing enemy emplacements.

Not every map has trees readily available, and there’s a variety of trees that would need to be manually coded to provide resources.

Deconstructing enemy emplacements rewarding a partial supply refund similar to when you deconstruct your own emplacements would be relatively easier to code, would give players a reason to keep enemy emplacements around instead of destroying them, and would not be dependent on the map design.

I’m no tree cutting expert, but unless your cutting twigs and small branches, I think most battles would be over in the time it took an engineer to cut down a tree with an axe. :joy:

They can speed up the progress. Engineers can already spawn an anti air cannon from their ass in couple seconds.

Yeah, let just cut trees in middle of battle on frontline. Your teammates definitely won’t be missing you.

Not to mention that more then likely your engineer will be shot and killed well before he gets that tree cut down.

It doesnt have to take so long. Just hit a tree couple of times and it will fall. Digging is more slower

Thanks but I would prefer not to turn this game into fortnite.

It’s completely out of place. If you want to larp Bob the builder and be collecting resources, go play fornite.

I’d like to have an option to destroy trees, just like we can destroy furniture. There are quite many examples of brilliant map design where there is a tree or a bush in front of a good firing position (because everything that is not run&gun is evil) like the 2nd left bunker on dday map from defender’s perspective (you literally have 2 trees in front of MGs). Using a tank to get rid of them is simply a waste of time and a tank slot.

I don’t know about gaining resources though.

I dont really care about the resource part. I just want to give infantry a proper way to take down trees. Also if cutting trees is out of place then should we remove engineer buildings? They literally spawn structures from thin air in matter of seconds

Hold up bro I gotta play minecraft and punch some trees so I can make my crafting bench, I need diamond armor before I can build my rally point

If it was up to me, rally points would have ceased to exist in this game a long time ago. But that’s a whole other discussion. :man_shrugging:

The point is, cutting down trees mid fight is an extremely out of place thing to do. And there’s no actual reason to implement something like that.
Especially for the sake of Bob the builder spamming more AT hedgehogs inside of buildings and so.

Yes there is. Sometimes trees get on your way when you build mg nest or cannon. Being able to remove them without having to rely on friendly tankers should be an option. It would also make axe more useful

Haha - imagine hardcore combat and one of your teammates goes full minecraft chops down a bloody tree!

Then he goes mining with his shovel and finally builds an house out of sandbags
